That said anyone else a bit disappointed that King K Rool is Ganondorf in this game? He literally has the power of rot which is what Ganondorf did to Link in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. I know K Rool always had super powers like turning invisible but this seems a bit more extreme compared to the zany character who dresses up like a pirate or mad scientist.

Also did anyone else feel it was weird to see Non Pauline human characters in a DK game it was even more uncanny to see King K Rool mingling in human society. Doesn't help that DK and King K Rool cannot speak the human tongue. But anyway seeing K Rool in a human world was weird.

As for the weird clash of art styles, I kinda dig it in a way. Before release, the game felt like an Alice in Wonderland story where a girl gets transported to crazy ass Rareware land with all these goofy looking Kongs and characters. The ending just reverses that with an old ass Rare character coming to "the real world" and trying to take it over.

King K Rool is quite different from Bowser. For one thing King K Rool is famous for his personas. And before anyone says "But Bowser did multiple personas in the Mario Bros USA cartoon!" Nigga even if he did this its not considered part of Bowser's main theme as a villain in the official Mario games. Bowser is a dragon king who wants to marry a princess. So this is King K Rool's gimmick.

Another major difference is Bowser is presented as a good boss to his minions (except movie Bowser but we don't speak of Jack Black Bowser). King K Rool on the other hand is quite abusive to his minions which is why some of the Kremlings happily betray him like in DK64.

Another thing is Bowser has a son whom he loves. King K Rool is implied to have a wife but he has no son or daughter. So they're both quite different.

Well in my OC head canon fan game bullshit, its set in the future/alternate timeline of Mario where all of the characters are older and the two main characters you play are:
-A melee attacking focused character that is implied to be Mario's adult son and has the vibes of Luigi in the 1993 Mario movie, wearing a backwards cap and using weapons like mallets, plungers, a Power Glove punch, Super Scopes and Zappers. Also uses the jump boots from the 1993 movie for a boost and kick attack.
-A magic using character named Rose (implied to be Rosalina) that casts spells by using various Mario series power-ups like fire flowers and super stars along with other various magical attacks. She would have a belt around her waist holding various power-up items(and a Geno doll).

They would go around as bounty hunters in a decaying Mushroom World that is bleeding out its whimsical, magic essence and becoming more "real". (think the Mushroomy Kingdom wasteland stage in Smash Bros Brawl) Mario and Bowser are gone, Peach is dead with a royal tomb that Toads bring gifts to, an old Luigi runs a museum dedicated to his brothers legacy and the "Mario brand" is owned by a major corporation creating all kinds of Mario branded merchandise and weapons that cash in on the brand and nostalgia. The two heroes travel around meeting future versions of other classic characters, like a Bowser Junior leading the Koopa Troop, DK in the roll of Cranky and Diddy and Dixie being the new heroes(or a new Son of Kong), Wario is a massively obese shut-in that lords over his wealth hoarded castle, Waluigi married Daisy and becomes the king/oil baron of Sarasaland. The evil bad guys are a group of villains consisting of Fawful and Tatanga (and maybe a 3rd) leading a group of Shroobs and robots. The real villain is revealed to be a reconstructed Smithy 2.0, built into a orbiting satellite, and is the siphoning all of the magic from the planet. And then something something you fight Giga Bowser.

I like how K. Rool and the Kremlings were saved for one section, makes them feel more special and 'premium' than, say, koopas. I think it'd make sense if they kept that approach, not as a twist villain every time, but have there be another threat to serve as the basic enemies and bosses alongside K. Rool, and Kremlings only appear as stronger enemies in certain segments of the game. You can even have him set things up in the opening, and for example he could be racing DK across the game's levels and only show up when their routes to the end converge. Then you get the kremling enemies.

In my head canon, he is the last surviving race of a bioweapon species made by the Chozo that was deployed onto enemy planets to waste shit (like a xenomorph). The stasis tube he was in survives for centuries until space pirates discover it, a former enemy species that the Chozo took over the homeworld of and forced them to become wandering space nomads/gypsies. I think the Space Pirates keep resurrecting Ridley mainly because he's their leader and without his leadership they know they're fucked. Mother Brain controlled the Space Pirates (including Ridley) but as an organization he was always their head.

I will admit there should be a limit to how often to abuse this trope as Metroid does not have as much of a 'sandbox narrative' as Mario does - there is a clear and present timeline of events and there is a point of incredulity that may have already been crossed but I'm of the 'in for a penny in for a pound' outlook. Ridley has been revived so many times already, one or two more would be a drop in the bucket.
