It's easily a 10/10 Batman experience, and at the time it was arguably the most impressive licensed property game ever made. City was better though, and Knight was even better than that.

I've been on a Batman kick recently and the Bamham games are fantastic, only ever finished Asylum last week and I'm finally going to play through the whole of City. The actual city of Arkham City is incredible, as gritty, filthy, and shitty as I imagined Gotham. The biggest problem I have with it is the "side content" is almost exclusively Riddler bullshit and the Riddler is gay as fuck and his stupid gay trophies are even gayer. Even the actual riddles are kind of lame, I end up just scanning all the Batman related references and end up "solving" them before I even looked at the riddle.
I'm kind of wary going into Knight because the last thing I remember about it is the giant controversy about it running like garbage when it came out and the seeming overreliance on Battank sections.

I don't care that batmobile is part of some bahman fantasy, I don't care for this shit. I didn't even use it more than I had to, since flying was cooler. Entire capeshit aethetic and theme is utterly insignificant for me overall. Dumb idea with this car and tank, not fitting the game. This series already had three components - puzzles, stealth and action - it didn't need another two. And they cucked Knight massively out of more proper content.

Catwoman missions in game are the best. And I spent a lot of time in challenges too. Instead of car and tank game should put emphasis on more playable characters, entire game should be designed around switching character which you could do at any time, each with their own gadgets to play with. Bahman alone and his gadgets are getting bored. Those few Nightwing and Robin dual activities were fun as well.
Personally I don't care for action part either, if games focused more on stealth I'd like them more

My hot take about the Arkham games after playing them is that Knight=Origins>Asylum>City. I'm not certain why everybody gaslit themselves into thinking City is the best Arkham when the story is awful and the open world is terrible.

Now, I know none of the Arkham games have great stories, but the others at least I could follow. Meanwhile City literally has three different villain twists in the last hour of the game. I also disliked the design of the predator sections (the best part of the Arkham games) in City compared to the others.

It is a pertinent question since this whole line of AK games were developed on Unreal Engine 3, to 4 on the later one. Some studios just make better use of it than others, or they're able to custom engineer their own lighting or something.

People say this shit far too often, yet never mention just how amazingly smooth the vehicle feels to control. Especially in target mode where you're basically moving a hovercraft. Yeah, the repetition was awful, but the satisfying controls does a great job to numb it down.
