I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Older games often had stylised backgrounds/skyboxes deliberately designed to create the impression of a larger, wider world which evoked the imagination. You couldn't go there (generally) but it made the game world more interesting. However since the HD era that kind of thing has all but died off. Modern devs just try to design things "realistically" so you just get the generic realistic open world environment of the play area and then blank sky/mountains on the borders which makes the world feel small and boring.

And AI shits itself after 10 prompts when you trying to use it for a project. The only thing it does well is art and that's a shame because art is something most people do for free on their free time. Neat but utterly unprofittable.
