Games generated as you go have no end goal, there is no sense of achievement for discovering something. I'll tell you why people won't adopt self-generated games en-masse.
Firstly because even when the tech is there, it will probably require a nuclear PC just to run the generation locally.
Secondly, because you guys are WAY overstimating the amount of effort that the average Joe is willing to put into making things.
Most normal people, even dedicated gamers will not want to spend time making something, even as powerful as a fully AI generated virtual world, because they already have concerns and effort to put into real life things, exactly as it is now.
What people want is to spend 30 bucks on steam for a new game and play it in their free time without having to worry about any work or effort beyond gameplay. AI won't change that.
So AI will greatly affect game dev of course, but the matter is, can you buy and download a fully AI game off steam, when it has no engine or 3d models, and is just 100% generative AI making shit on the go? No because it implies you need the hardware and the AI engine to run it. Even if you shared your AI world with other people the player pool will be way too small for mass marketing.
BUT, maybe the tech will become so insanely powerful that you will be able to run a fully realistic AI world on the biggest toaster laptop owned by gopnik russians. If that is the case I will be proven wrong. But until the hardware requirement is there and worth 1000+ dollars at minimum, AI worlds won't revolutionarize gaming.
