I do know that Dedan was one of the main influences behind Papyrus but did Toby really feel inclined to beat us over the head with it? He does this with nearly every game he works with in the music department. Even with GameFreak's Pokemon he does this unprompted. I played the original. Thought it was insanely flawed and not a game I would call "good" without a long list of qualifications. But it had some genuinely good elements. The worldbuilding was unique and interesting. I didn't care much about the story, but despite that I found the ending to be impactful. I loved that Pepper Steak track. I think the concept for the plot was interesting on a high level of abstraction. There are a lot of bad things too. But I'll refrain from going over all of them, I'll just mention the most important one: the core gameplay loop was so painfully generic and boring that it brought the whole experience down a lot. I think I'd like to check out the remaster some time. Maybe not on release, but a few years down the line, when it's on sale.

There was no winning with this endeavor. I think he did the best he could, and when you listen to his OST, you get the impression that for the most part he really tried to avoid putting too much of his personality into it, and trying to stick to the style of the original game. He of course failed at that in a lot of places, with one motif being very similar to an Undertale one in particular (the creator might have asked him to put something like that in, idk) but I'm not convinced there's another possible composer replacement that would do a better job.

I have no problem with this in narrative sense. More like stylistically. As it is, OFF already had "something else" artstyle with The Room illustration of pre-OFF or pre-Hugo world. This one works better in my opinion, since it's completely different, because it uses standard RPGM sprites and puts character in this world. New content is more like invasive species that is on tope of OFF styled overworld and it isn't that much different from OFF artstyle. It is just different enough for me to notice.

Just read one review, and it might be that all new content might not be important to main storyline. Like it kinda is with Sucre. So I don't really know what to think of them. Probably will play it and find out what it hits pirate trackers

Ib did get a Steam remake but personally I found it to be the most inoffensive of the bunch. It changed the visuals and changed around some puzzles for better or worse. I still think the original is fine but this remaster is worth playing if you're a nutcase about the game like I am, especially since they added the option to talk to both Mary/Garry and two new areas. Overall its not on the level of OFF's remaster mediocry but you can get by playing it or the original just fine.

it's not just t*by fox, but the fact that they have like half a dozen composers for like forty tracks (at most) that the game is going to have. they all have quite different styles so it's going to be fucking awful listening to that shit. also, not only is the music going to be clashing in style, but so is the art, since mortis changed his art style significantly since off dropped, so you have the cutesy art in the background while the 4:3 area where the actual game is played (which switches to 16:9 during combat, because they couldn't even do that right) has his old art style. i feel like the whole game's just gonna be inconsistent and rotten.

Alias Conrad Coldwood knew Fangamer were going to sell a version of OFF's OST, which would make the work he already made pro bono and in the public domain, suddenly at risk of being copyright-struck anywhere online.
He also is an artist with an artist's temperament. Coldwood got cold feet about the concept and Fangamer as a whole, and backed out of the product.

Alias Conrad Coldwood's OST was so instrumental to the original game that every time you launched the original freeware version it would tell you to use headphones for a better auditory experience before you even hit start.

There simply was not a way to rectify the loss of the original soundtrack.

Considering the fact that the remaster has new areas, a new OST, and new additions to align it more with Mortis Ghost's modern artistic sensibilities, I am interested in approaching it as its own thing in conversation with the original, as it's always interesting when an artist revisits their past work some time down the line. They've said many times that this isn't meant to replace the original release, so I don't think it's fair to treat it like a standard remaster being shitty with the changes.

If someone wanted to do a remaster of Undertale, and have all the music changed and composed by other people, then there would be a massive uproar as well. Generally it's an equipment check or exploration check in Black Souls 1. Grinding mainly just allows you to cheese things, but I don't think that is particularly necessary. I did get lost a few times and stuck on enemies when I was supposed to explore somewhere else my first time playing though.
Black Souls 2 was relatively much more straightforward in this regard, and also just a looot bigger as a game. The "endgame" battles were much more difficult than in Black Souls 1. Needed to actually use brain there for once, even with maxed stats.
