To be fair, this is a lot closer to on-model than a lot of ZSS fanart. Between Zero Mission and Dread, Samus really was just a hot chick in a space catsuit under the armor. The problem with samus lore/writing wise is that the only time she’s spoken before dread was gushing over her old commander Adam in fusion, or being completely subservient to him in other M. Before fusion she’s always been a semi silent(super) badass bounty hunter who just goes in and genocides shit, and if you did it fast enough you saw her take off her outer suit or her helmet off and proudly smile that the mission was over. So all we could take from that was that she was an operator, she lived to get shit done. Fusion and ZM came along and suddenly we see her smiling, maybe tanning in the sun, hitting the showers, or chatting with some derelict in the bar over some space liquor. “Huh, that’s neat”, I wondered. “She does seem to be more human after all. I wonder what else about her retro or Nintendo will let us see her do outside of missions”

Along comes fusion and she WILL. NOT. SHUT. UP about Adam amidst trying to figure out what’s going on, and you’re left wondering why she has such an attachment to him after all these years. Then other M comes out and she’s hotter(and cuter!) then ever before but she’s turned into a crying baby despite chronologically already seeing ridley and lets Adam order her around and take mandatory damage and hardships for absolutely retarded reasons and you’re left alienated because your silent brooding female master chief is suddenly a whipped nepo baby. In dread she’s MUCH better because it’s about her time with the chozo, and she’s sick of kraids shit, and she looks all badass, but she only really talks once. And she has a strong sense of duty that compels her to protect the galaxy from threats like the Metroids and the X-Parasites, even if she's not being paid. As of Dread, she's also become a bit cocky, as shown in her interactions with Kraid, and much more aggressive, as shown in her interactions with... everything else. Samus was informed about Raven Beak's plan by that other chozo. The issue is Samus is not conflict about these two tribes of chozo fighting each other. She was a willing hitman sort of speak sent out to kill Raven Beak. Thankfully a few of the chozo from Raven Beak's unit left on their ship so Samus has not exterminated Raven Beak's tribe.
