Madou Monogatari (and Puyo)
Beat the new game recently, I think it's fun but have a few things to say.
>general gameplay loop is good if repetitive depending on how long the dungeons go, each chapter only having one dungeon you go back to multiple times doesn't help but it gets less bad later in the game
>some characters are unique but others are pretty obvious expies again, Fia is literally just Amitie, Will is Chronicle Lagnus but even worse since you're stuck with him the entire game, and Totto is basically Lemres but trade candy for a love of money and some shades of Sig with his body and soul being separate, but for the most part every character is fun
>Returning characters are slightly mixed too, The Banshee Trio now being pankster fairies is fine if odd, Zoh Daimaoh shows up once, is a lot more passive than expected, and then gets carted away after the fight to never be seen again. Owlbear gets a lot of screentime compared to everyone else, even if it's because they're minions of Zoh Daimaoh only a few others are merely hinted at through the help box or mail you get like Harpy, Seriri and Satan
>only 13 non-final boss enemies and most of them are Chronicle-tier recolors to match the elements, which are the exact same as how puzzle and dragons elements work, unlike it though there's barely any difference between them outside of maybe one move being elemental and only 1-2 new enemies are introduced per chapter, even extending to the returning characters sans suketoudara, so The Banshee Trio's attacks now don't make sense when the shout attacks use their names even if after chapter 4 they become normal elemental enemies. extends to the trouble box too where sometimes it'll talk about a singular Zoh Daimaoh only for it to be either a flood of elemental variants or just one elemental version
It's fun, just feels a bit small in areas like the enemies despite the japanese trailer being a year after the initial announcement.
