I don't even think the game is in that bad of a spot. The battle content this expansion has been really good. The story and OC have been terrible though. Bozja was pretty good for what it was, no idea why they decided to take so many steps back from that. IMO by FAR the biggest issue XIV has at the moment is the Data Center problem. If you want to do PF content, or even some story dungeons, you pretty much have to swap over to Aether DC. This is an issue because many times Aether is congested and you can't travel there, so you're just stuck. They need to figure out cross DC grouping already.

while i do agree that there are many compelling and interesting plot hooks attached to the raid and trial series, there's two issues with it

1: the MSQ is already gargantuan. 2.0 to 7.3 is like 200 hours if you skip quests. desu I'm not a fan of crystal tower being mandatory for the MSQ
2: i DO want more original stories. dawntrail for the most part was a swing and a miss but imho they've not struck out yet. it'll be kinda disappointing if instead of trying something new they do what gamefreak does and genwun so hard it ruins their franchise

Fatigue was per class, and leveling a class only earned you new skills to equip. It didn't actually enhance your strength at all. Maybe as odd patch content. I really fucking hate it in WoW because it wrecked the gearing curve. Now it's impossible for them to tune Mythic raids for gear progression because it has to start out tuned for HoF guilds coming at it in full max ilvl M+ gear. It leaves almost no room for natural progression so the alternative turned into really aggressive waves of nerfs on the bosses. I quit my old very competitive Mythic guild pretty early in Legion because I simply could not keep up with the sheer volume of M+ we were running.

Maybe it's less of a problem because XIV is a lot more tightly tuned and people don't care as much about clear rank, but I'd really prefer if we stayed in a "get gear from the raid to progress the raid" system.

The content roulettes put you into is what the game is about.
The MSQ never puts you into an exploratory zone and tells you to grind out 50 FATEs, but it does put you through a plethora of dungeons.

FFXIV has always had a dogshit social element. Duty finder content is too braindead and raids are too restrictive. With only 8 people in the party you can't really afford to bring someone along who isn't pulling their weight, which heavily encourages forming locked in static parties.
