Honestly the game is just so fucking slow, the maps are massively oversized, movement is slow, enemies are sparse and take too long to kill, and you're constantly backtracking.

This, the game is fucking trash. Remove currency loss on death, have all maps by default instead of needing to buy them, double the amount of benches, and actually give upgrades and progression like every good metroidvania.

I've been playing for 3 hours and got a trash silk spear that I will never use, a trash fucking throwing knife that I will never use, and a tiny blip of silk that persists after use. It's like if you beat 1/3rd of Super Metroid and all you had to show for it was a single missile upgrade.

it works the same as it used to, i guess due to how "charms" work there's more stuff fighting for the slots so keeping it equipped constantly is less desirable. but it's such a great qol it's hard to pass up on.

Yeah that's annoying. In HK it wasn't really blocking anything since it just took up one notch, but if it's gonna block an entire subset of upgrades that's really fucking annoying, even if those other upgrades end up being shit.
I can only assume that the devs were annoyed that the vast majority of people just equipped the compass and forgot about it, and they genuinely want people to view "being able to see where you are on the map" as an actual upgrade and not something that should be inherent to the map system

I just refunded. First one was okay, but I'm not a Souls addicted zoomer so I didn't pretend it was the best Metroidvania ever. This is more of that. The game might get better later on when you get actual movement options, but these Aussies need to learn how to pace a game. I didn't even remember this game was coming out this year until I saw it on the steam shop. Played for a couple hours.
The begining is basically just Hollow Knight's with the same feeling of lacking mobility, which is dissappointing since the entire point of having Hornet as the MC was supposed to be having good mobility from the start. It will probably get much better after the early game like in HK, but still. I did like how they added a bunch of opportunities to do skips here and there by pogoing off enemies, though people who didn't play HK a lot won't probably notice them.
The art and music of the begining areas are much worse than HK's. I've talked with like 12 NPCs and the only one I distinctly remember is the tall one that sells maps, whereas in HK all the NPCs from the main town were memorable. The ambient ost so far has fallen completely flat for me and the town ost is absolutely unremarkable compared to the ost from their HK counterpart or other popular town osts like Majula's.
At least so far it does feel like a HK expansion that got turned into a game, without as much artistic charm as the original. It's probably not going to be terrible since it is more Hollow Knight, but I don't know if it will live up to the original seeing how the art and music has been so far.
