Groundwork isn't mandatory but it's by far the best thing you can do on a front runner to create that early lead which you try to maintain until the final corner. If you're first on the final corner as front runner Seiun's ultimate just wins you the match. You want 3-4 speed cards, 1-2 power, 1 wit. Power and wit matters a lot for front runners. For stamina it's a struggle, you kinda really want good stamina parents and then whatever you get from power training.

Als 301 guts is a big boost due to some strange speed formula thing, this isn't guaranteed if you're at 0 stamina cards.

The reason Summer Maru is considered so good is that she has a very powerful mid race speed boost which basically guarantees she's always ahead of Seiun's/other front runners to that crucial final corner.

For parents I used a 9* speed and 9* Stam. I got lucky and got spurt through the last inspiration along an S long and 2 golds + 1 white + double standard distance should be enough stamina
Still, spurt is not worth it if you can't get +1000 speed
Also used McQueen's card instead of an MLB cafe because you really need that guts bonus to reach 400 and not have her fucking dying in the last spurt

1. Does winning a G1 race more than once increase the odds of sparking it? Like if I were to win one in the Classic year, is it pointless to hit it again in the Senior year?
2. I assume it depends on the type of parent you're building but is there any general consensus on any G1s that are worth prioritizing vs ones that are worth skipping?

Afaik winning the same race multiple times does nothing. There's probably a tier list for which G1 sparks are best but the chance of getting a specific one is quite low so for a parent run you just try to run them all.

Already feeling a lot better about my prospects for Cancer Cup than I did about Gemini, and this is only my first attempt
4 speed cards felt like overkill (capped it a little before the URA Finale started), so I might try slotting in a second power card next time. Other than that I think it's just a matter of waiting until I get good inspiration RNG

According to that one JP player that makes decent videos, epithets matter. So classic/senior spring/senior fall triple crown races are more important. Hopeless and two Arima wins is also an epithet, and Hopeless has a good spark. I never see the dual miler(?) epithet mentioned anywhere so I don't know if it's worth going for, but I don't really run Mile umas anyway.
When I go for parent runs I pretty much always do the three triple crowns, hopeless, and liz II if I can squeeze it in.

Do you have the spurt spark on both parents? Do you have it on grandparents? It's more likely to trigger from parents, but also the individual affinities with each parent grandparent determines its chances of proccing. If the affinity is bad, it's less likely. To maximize your chances, you want the best affinities possible with the parents that hold it, but also grandparents.

Lucky wins far less likely to happen in gemini. You don't luck your way into max stamina, straightaway spurt, and 2-3 gold recoveries. Obviously the game has a level of luck to it, but that doesn't change how complex the mechanics underlying everything is.

That's what it's about, putting yourself in the best possible position to maximize your chances of getting lucky...like real life. If you don't have the set up right, you're not even gonna get lucky. In fact most won't even have enough stamina to survive the race. Just make sure your stamina and recovery is good and that will ensure you against most.
Even my "perfect" spurt golshi got fucked in a practice race because one of her gold heals failed to proc, and around 400 wit that's like a 40% of failure, so yeah. My other "aces" are sub par. Just make sure they have enough stamina to survive and it will provide you some extra insurance should your main ace get fucked over or blocked etc. That or run some debuffers.
