I know you said linked, as in there's a correlation, but I don't believe I've experienced anything particularly traumatic in my life--at least nothing that I can remember. Yet, I've experienced depersonalization/derealization multiple times in my life.

One thing in particular that I remember about these episodes is that they seem to be "triggered" by certain trains of thought, particularly having to do with existence. It feels like these episodes are regularly periodic.

They are distressing, but I believe I come out of them with a better understanding and appreciation of my life. In that sense, I assume these episodes are experienced to some degree by everyone--a consequence of having minds capable of introspection. That, or I was molested by my neighborhood onee-san.

It's one thing to accept that we're all going to die one day, but another to have a NDE or to experience your final moments; to be unable to turn away from the reality in front of you.

I've never tried meditation nor spoken to a psychologist or the rapist about it. I assume they'd just put me on meds. Coming out of my ego death however, it was rather cathartic. I truly felt at peace. I noticed that without an ego, it's easy to be taken advantage of; It's like walking around without any skin.
