It's pretty slow at first because there's all this new stuff you've gotta do. Once you do the same career over and over it's pretty seamless, just put it on fast mode and then change the options so it will slow down for events you haven't seen yet so you don't accidentally skip new stuff. Then I also put it on quick mode -> skip scenarios only. Speeds up the forced story bit every time you do a career
