Outside of Lagiacrus which for some reason is just impossible to find a hunt of 90% of the time I have an easier time finding 8* tempered hunts for end game grinding. That was the biggest thing that made me put the game down pre TU1 having 90% of my join attempts ending in failure.

Milds is such a genuinely pathetic game on every level, I can't think of a single intentional design element or creative choice they haven't either walked back or made irrelevant. Even something as basic as rewarding the best times on the leaderboard with special pendants has to be walked back so the increasingly small pool of reddit dads who genuinely like getting autopiloted to the monster and killing it within 4 minutes with easy mode counters don't feel left out. It's so blatantly obvious that Capcom has no idea what to do with this game or why everyone hates it even outside the terrible performance. I wouldn't be surprised if they just ditch the event quests prematurely and just put them all up 24/7 like end of service world before the next title update.

Where's the content? In under 50 hours I made it through base game and all the content without armor. I have nothing else to fight. I'm bored. The game runs poorly. I recommend any other monster hunter game until the expansion comes out then we can reevaluate. Rise is my favorite game and where I recommend everyone else start who has never played the series. I thought the game would give me more of a fight than it did difficulty wise especially without armor but it didn't. Pick a complete monster hunter game and we will revisit this when the expansion comes out.

They're probably feeling immense pressure to keep up the insane growth they've experienced the last 7-8 years. It's going to cause them to crumble eventually because they don't realize that a lot of that growth was due to old fans driving hype because they perceived capcom as having returned to their pre-2010s phase of just being a company that made good games rather than being money grubbing lazy assholes. They're doing their danm best right now to burn through all the goodwill they built up again.

The game's difficulty is at an all-time low because of new mechanics. Monster Hunter wasn't known to be easy. Especially when you look at other Monster Hunter titles, this game's difficulty feels lacking. Most of the monster attacks inflict very low damage and don't stagger the hunter. This allows players to just face-tank the living hell out of monsters without any real consequence. As a result, farming monsters for better gear feels optional; dying feels like a choice. In addition, most of the new monsters added have attacks that don't cover or have a lot of range (or AOE), making it more unlikely to get hit. This imposes a problem with certain weapon types that actually want to be hit (greatsword/longsword/switch-axe/charge-blade) in order to stay efficient. In certain hunts I stood still but was missed regardless.

Some of these difficulty complaints go hand in hand with certain weapons changes that were made. While Gunlance is literally a "blast" to play and is well designed (you can dish out big damage at the cost of leaving yourself open), longsword and Sword & Shield are the complete opposite. By adding the ability to move in between attacks, you can evade most of the monsters attacks while dishing out a consistent amount of damage. There is no risk-reward here; just pressing buttons allows you to win. This also applies to Greatsword. A weapon known to be difficult to play but very rewarding if you manage to hit the monster. Greatsword gained an "offset", which essentially functions as a parry. An attack that, while dealing damage, is extremely safe sounds abusable, and it is. Greatswords ability to be invincible during 2/3 of an attack and afterwards being able to instantly guard (and repeat this sequence) and gaining a guaranteed true charge for being attacked by a monster is ridiculous. You can literally shut your brain off and beat the game this way. This offset outclasses any other playstyle and allows you to gain maximum reward for minimal risk.

Wilds won.

Moving on, I'd like to talk about the next thing. Set-Building. Someone on the team had the great idea to separate skills/effects/decorations between weapons and armor. What does this mean exactly? You can't slot the Skill Attack Boost on any armorpiece or receive it from one, since it is exclusive to weapons. Since this skill isn't available on any forged talisman, it makes this skill worthless. As a result, set building lost a huge amount of depth and feels boring. It also hurts the game's long-term playability since players don't need to farm different materials.

Followed by all this negativity, you guessed it, comes another weird decision.

A lot of effort was put into the graphical appearance. The Monsters animations are fluid and telegraph attacks well. But since so much effort was put into graphics, the overall content the game can offer was cut short. The game's overall monster count is very low. You are able to see almost all of the monsters within 15 hours of gameplay. And 10 of these hours are just slowly walking through certain parts of the environment because some character wants to tell you their life story. The game forces you to do this, which makes replaying this title an absolute disaster. As already said, I JUST WANT TO HUNT MONSTERS and not listen to an NPC yapping for 15 minutes straight. I understand that the intention is to showcase the pretty environment, but this could've been done in so many better ways. Mostly you don't spend time learning a map's layout anyway, since your mount just takes you to the monster anyway. It just feels horrible destroying a monster (since they literally can't fight back) in under 2 minutes and then having to wait 15 more minutes in order to kill the next monster in under 3 minutes.

As a fan of this series since the PS2 original game I must advice any old/new hunter that this game is not a hunting game anymore; it has turned into a boss-rush game in which you will jump from a monster to the other in a matter of seconds with almost 0 pre-hunt preparation.

Less objects to craft, no farms or mines needed to stack resources since we can gather everything from the mount running around the map for few minutes or is provided directly from the quartermaster felyne or the outposts' representatives.

Hunting monsters is now just a mount ride straight to the target already shown on the map, no real hunting skills need nor in-game mechanics (like in MH World).

Monsters have beautiful animations and the hit boxes are the best ever programmed, the real problem is that a hunt ends in 5-10 minutes even against the most dangerous monsters because the game is too easy, we have too many resourses (and ways to restore them running for 30 seconds around the map), we can run away jumping on the mount wherever we need and we hit monsters way too hard also cause of the new focus mode and scar mechanics.

Scars on monsters work differently in Wilds if compared to the World ones, here they can "explode" when hit with the focus mode dealing way too damage to the monster and filling our inventory with tons of its materials; this mode is awesome to use but way too strong especially with some weapons.

Armor and Weapon crafting is the last issue with this game, we can get everything within a month because objects and materials are literally thrown at us from every direction; it is too easy to gather even the rarest ones so there is no need to keep hunting.

I love this franchise but after every release i feel that parts of the "Monster Hunter" soul are getting ripped off and thrown to the bin.

Performance is far from the only issue with this game. They seem to have focused all their development time into a pointless and bland open world, pointless 2 weapon system and entirely reworking armour skills to accommodate this, not to mention the 2-dimensional story which was apparently going to be the deepest and most character-driven story in the series.

The maps are built to be traversed with the Seikret, but all it means is that there are many pathways and shortcuts inaccessible on foot, which gives you even less reason to actually play the game instead of just hopping on the Seikret and getting auto-pilot to take you to the monster. The monsters are all ridiculously easy too, so why even bother upgrading your weapons or armour?

This game is very weirdly directed. You're better off playing any other Monster Hunter title

World kind of reminded my of XY in a way. The devs have access to new hardware and want to expand into a new direction, in order to do so they take some liberties and it's far from perfect but I can at least see what they were trying to do.

As a kid I was huge into pokemon but only ever played like 2-3 of the games. I grew out of it very quickly as I got older. I think a large part of that was being pretty underwhelmed by the games even as a kid. They're really the lowest effort slop imaginable. It's not fun to fail a hunt because your game crashed, four months in and it's still happening. This game oddly played better in the beta, it seems to get worse instead of better. I can play any other game at top settings but this one is just plain broken. I recommend World for new players wanting a modern MH experience because Capcom sure doesn't seem to care about fixing a half-baked game.

I've been playing the MH series since Tri and I don't particularly like this new direction the series is going, everything feels like the game plays itself. You don't need top of the line gear to do any of the content, you don't even need to make multiple sets to combat weaknesses like in the older games, you don't even need to use your Lucky Vouchers because a million gems/plates will fall from the sky per hunt. You don't have to think. You don't have to plan. Maybe that's the new fanbase Capcom wants to attract, a group of players who need instant gratification. It doesn't feel like MH to me. It would be fun if it ran better, but I honestly barely recognize it.

Something holding me back from playing Tri is that I wanna homebrew my WiiU and backup my save file to a portable drive so I can play on emulator if I want to especially if my WiiU dies (I also want to hook up my wii to a crt, but I have to homebrew everything to get my data on the wii and I'm scared).

While I'm still very new to the Monster Hunter series, I played through World and became absolutely addicted. I went into Wild with high expectations and was immediately let down by the horrendous decision to change the feel and movement of my beloved Insect Glaive. Key binds made no sense to a PC player unless you played with your hand in a claw position to only then develop crippling arthritis.

The look of Wilds is very gorgeous and I love the wound mechanic as well.
Unfortunately this game is COMPLETELY unplayable no matter what I try to do I am constantly lagging, losing frames, and inevitably the game crashes. I've completely lost interest in ever opening this game ever again, but my love for Monster Hunter remains.
