Some people prefer archie rules where things are matrilineal/sex-specific, whatever it was, but SEGA has never outright stated anything on it. I don't think any of the powers particularly fit Sonic in any capacity and they feel more in line with what you might finding Mario. Sonic is about earned momentum. A power system itself defeats the purpose of earned momentum because nearly all the powers halted momentum to use. The only way to make it good is if you were to integrate is naturally like Rush's boost. The powers are an antithesis to proper Sonic design.

Chris is one of the most misunderstood characters in the Sonic franchise and the air time he got in Sonic X didn't quite do him justice, although I understand why the creators of the show prioritized the main action-packed plotline over the Chris subplot. Chris represents an increasing common issue that was designed to relate to a lot of viewers: feelings of loneliness, lacking a purpose in life, and lacking friends who truly understand you for who you are. Chris made some friends at school but they could not provide the deep companionship, true understanding, and allyship that Chris needed. The along comes Sonic. Sonic is the first and perhaps only being in Chris' life who could provide the deep companionship that Chris needs and could truly understand Chris for who he is and without judgement, which also aligns with Sonic's life purpose of being of service to others and helping the vulnerable. Notice how Sonic is always there for Chris and never runs away from him as he often runs away from Amy. Sonic stayed loyal to Chris even when Chris kidnapped him. Sonic and Chris have an even deeper bond than typical boyfriends.

And I truly believe that Sonic and Chris have sexually experimented on each other at least once, and that they probably started having sex with each other regularly since the middle of the first series

Since at least Sonic Adventure 2 the game games themselves had plenty of material to work with and you did not need to look to Western cartoons for more. They both create OCs that completely step on existing characters' toes. Shadow was literally designed to replace both Knuckles as the rival AND Metal Sonic as the dark reflection of Sonic. Sonic is the coolest guy ever, and Tails is always trying to catch up and prove himself. From the very first time they met, to the Adventure games where Tails' stages are literally racing Sonic... Tails sees Sonic as someone he has to measure himself up to. SA1 is "Racing" for Tails' stages because that is exactly what Tails' perspective IS. Tails is racing against Sonic, Tails is pushing himself to beat Sonic in a race.

A one-sided race, that Sonic is not aware of. Sonic isn't paying Tails much mind, Sonic is just focused on getting to the goal and keeps an eye on Tails along the way. Sonic is impressed with Tails' ability to keep up, and encourages him to catch up and stuff, but it's not a true race or rivalry on Sonic's end outside of very specific moments.

Alongside that, Tails' motivation is not to "beat Sonic". Tails' motive is to be like Sonic, and become someone Sonic can rely on. Tails' role as a sidekick comes with the necessity of proving that he can keep up with and prove useful to Sonic. Why would Sonic even need a sidekick? What can Tails actually do to help Sonic, of all people? Tails has to answer that question, through his actions. Prove himself as "Player 1.5" or "Player 2".

The Friendly Rival character is Knuckles, who stands in opposition to Sonic even as an ally. Knuckles criticizes and challenges Sonic in ways that Tails fundamentally doesn't. There is a fundamental difference between Tails and Knuckles' dynamics with Sonic. Tails competing with Sonic, and Knuckles assisting Sonic, are very different from what the other typically does. When Tails competes with Sonic, it's to prove his own worth as someone Sonic can rely on. When Knuckles assists Sonic, it's putting his trust in someone he doesn't typically agree with.
