Slingshot or gravity assists are when space faring ships use the gravity of another body to propel themselves, It kinda describes Biwa skill perfectly though since you line up conditionals to get a fuck huge acceleration bonus using other racers in the last corner.

You're not understanding what is being said.

The core aspect of this is the "Pace Down" mechanic. It's LITERALLY a mechanic that says that if your Uma is ahead of where they want to be (relative to the uma in #1), they will reduce their stamina consumption by 40% and chill out. This has a massive impact because it means if your Uma has good stats, they're going to save a ton of stamina. Front Runners are not capable of entering Pace Down, when they are #1 they still burn stamina to try and stay there, and if they fall to #2 they burn a shitload of stamina trying to get back to #1.

Yes, Pace Chasers use 11% more stamina than the default value, but they also only use 0.6X their stamina value if they can keep up with the Front Runner, and they never turbo-charge to waste more than their base stamina value unless they fall behind Late runners (which is incredibly unlikely).

Speed only matters in the final leg of the race. Wit is what controls how fast you go for 80% of the race, this is why Witmaxxing lets you take less stamina because you're constantly getting a .6 multiplier to stamina consumption.

Front Runners with high Wit can be especially scary, because every other runner is forced to try and keep up. A core wincon for Front Runners can be high enough Wit to waste everyone's stamina so they can't do the huge late spurts they need to pass you.
