I am thinkering a Stormweaver Firestorm build, my idea is to use Firestorm with the +1 limit from the new Raindancer with all infustions to cause all elemental ailments, then have Cast on Ailments to trigger Snap automatically.

My question is: do Spell Echo works if the firestorm is given a cooldown from Excecrate? If it does I can have 2 firestorms, it would have 8 second cooldown, but with some extra duration the storms would last that much anyways

It's a lot more intensive for es/ev and arm/ev to stack deflect since they need to sacrifice a suffix + stack raw evasion. ES+EV was meta because pure EV was so bad (trust me I tried it), and because ES restore was too easy (thanks to Eternal Youth which is dead).

one way it should work out as balanced is that if you have to invest skill points into deflect you're getting less per point if you use ES/EV hybrid gear because your flat EV is lower. just like you get less ES than someone only wearing sorc gear.

GGG's plan is very obviously that players will all be able to have approximately the same EHP with the same gear quality and points on the tree. that ought to be the case whether you go pure ES or EV or a mixture.

your total ES and EV is always going to depend more on what you're getting from your item bases and prefixes. all of those EV/ES hybrid nodes are only as good as the numbers they're multiplying.

but one thing GGG haven't done yet is added shittier "neutral" versions of the character starting areas that you get if you path there from another start. all the ESEV rangers path to Mindful Awareness (+24% to both) which is clearly something GGG added because monks were dying the mosts in act 1. as a result of that kind of thing the tree is currently a bit to generous to hybrid builds.

Chonk (outside of the leech node) is independent of spells and attacks. You can run volatility from ailments pretty easily and it seems to be a massive source of added chaos damage which will scale ignite magnitude. The issue is pathing the ignite wheels will be rather annoying since they pair with a bunch of useless fire damage nodes. I suppose for the 3rd and 4th point there's the purple flame for approximately 100% added chaos as well but I've heard that node just feels bad. Maybe just the funny dodge one and the chaos res nodes. It's hard to speculate currently though as they added ascendancy combo passives and we don't currently know what they are or will do outside of the Arcane Surge life regen

WH would be a great ascendancy if the game was harder and you could make very hard content easier by using decimating+cull+cull scaling to cope with tough monsters.
But as it is, the game is kinda easy, everyone has loads of damage, so why take an ascendancy for pseudodamage?
As for other things, the concentration thing+the damage bonus isn't that hot when you compare it to what other ascendancies get for 4 points, damage-wise.
Weapon swap thing is strong but niche, and explode has dubious use when people have great clear to begin with.
Sorc ward is a fantastic defense layer, but is dependent on taking an ascendancy that otherwise doesn't have much in the way of defences and can't easily build much pool. So as good as it is, you don't end up the tankiest class in the game with it (though it is really fucking good for HC I tell you hwat).

It's a decent leaguestart ascendancy, and past leaguestart, it's a usable ascendancy with some upsides and some weaknesses. Doesn't compete with any of the top ascendancies in any field though.

Yeah in a sense that's true, if there was life on the tree, WH would be a very competitive build. But it's rough to build up both a large Sorc Ward buffer and a large normal buffer, and avoidance will never be quite where you want it if you're taking a penalty to evasion. But still, I think Sorc Ward is more underrated (and misunderstood) than bad. It's strong.
