The vast majority of wilds players who played monhun before completed the story then went right back to doing anomalies or chilling in world.
The series has peaked and now we're stuck in a giant snowball rolling down the hill towards a small village called Monster Hunter, powerless to stop it.

Their servers crash and burn and all backups mysteriously short circuit as the game is wiped from everyone's desktop in a freak accident and they are forced to start anew and design something so monumentally great it would stand a chance of offsetting the financial losses that would incur.

There is no other way I see a better realistic future for the series.

At best, *best*, the DLC will have acceptable content and magically fixes all the performance issues, fixes weapons (god what a mess), completely revamps high rank, and retcons the story and characters, but of course would cost more than the base game because every triple A title now is exclusively priced at 80$.
Or it will go the direction of rise where you have the option to leave the villagers to starve (kamura) and meet the new, cooler, cast of a new outpost, while alma gets mauled by a anjanath and eric follows soon after. I realized way too late that the only thing I liked about wilds was the novelty and the "seamless" open world, but one ran out and the other is worth jack when there are realistically only three areas in each region where fighting the monster isn't more so a battle with the terrain.

I'm not a qualified game designer. What I want probably wouldn't appeal to many, so I understand why they decided to go with this mild(s) mix of everything that ultimately has almost nothing to do with the series except for the monsters and weapons, to appeal to the widest audience possible for the sake of money and investors.
I just don't think that was the right move because ultimately it betrayed the niche, diehard fanbase they had been cultivating for so long while those that never were invested in the series completely abandoned it after HR for the most part.
If I were to travel in time I'd give him my ideas, tell him what a fucking mess they're making of everything but ultimately I don't know enough to recommend anything that I am confident the playerbase would like.

Personally I think if they're going to keep going with the stories we need to see some more mature themes. Not necessarily sex and gore but some more morally gray characters and situations with actual stakes. Maybe even kill off a main character or two after we get to know them for a while. Good for you, I really didn't. Nothing he did or said made almost any sense, and the supposed adults in the story were wrapped around his little finger so tight it almost fell off from blood deprivation.
When you're supposed to feel sorry for him as alma stammers and sobs the approval to hunt the monster (in a game called monster hunter by the way) that's killed dozens and is quite literally mindlessly devouring more prey as they speak, it made me really question just what they were smoking when writing the story.
The only good and memorable scene from the entire story was the "by my order" one, because it completely subverted everything the game has been trying to force onto you basically the entire time up until that point. I'd like to believe it was perhaps intentional, but no way they're that smart, otherwise the rest wouldn't be *as* shit as it is.
It's the only scene 90% of players remember from the story anyway.

I'm no writer. Monhun was never about the story, and wilds did everything they could to shove it in your face, and gosh darn it they would do it even if they had to break a few teeth for the spoon to fit.
I'm also not a fan of literally 80% of all characters being some shade of brown or black but its by far one of my smallest concerns, wouldn't want to get all chuddy here.
I think the game deserved to be harder but not the way the sought to achieve with 9*. They just made every monster either oneshot or force you to heal for a prolonged time, while also making it not viable to invest in defensive skills that could help with that because they simultaneously made the monsters insane damage-sponges that get very tiring to fight fast, since they all essentially just spam the same three moves with different flavor of oneshot for twenty minutes.
One of my biggest problems besides the artificial difficulty are the weapons.

For starters, focus mode made positioning a tale of the past. Hits no longer feel as rewarding, however, I think it is ultimately a good addition though there needs to either be a limit on how much you can use it (a gauge, if you will, that replenishes partially if it's used on actual wounds) or leave it possibly permanent but lower damage done while using it (except for wound breakers).
This way, players can choose between a damage maximizing expression of skill, or chill out with focus mode, doing less damage per hit, but hitting more frequently.

Other than that, I think they completely gutted some of my favorite weapons, while made others unjustly overpowered, but I am a bit biased, and I'm sure the people who play these overpowered weapons are having fun.
Dual blades are even more braindead and designed to be THE tutorial weapon that even someone who has never played a video game could wield efficiently with one hand. But I suppose that's what they've always been.
The damage charts have been completely flipped on their head.
Ranged weapons were absolutely raped and although I seldom play them, I think they *should* be the max dps weapons, in any title, sacrificing engagement and safety for consistent damage. That's what they've always been. Now they're all just different flavors of gunlance.
Speaking of gunlance, it's the second most rotbrained weapon, although I can't complain much because the GL players were long overdue for their cool weapon to actually be useful. They saw that gl was popular in theory but not so much in practice, so they made it a lot easier to handle for complete newbies, which focus mode trivializes even further.
I think most weapons were at their peak in sunbreak (not to say it was perfect), which is why I said I'd like it's combat in the "theoretical great game".
But I digress. Won't bore you with further ramblings.
Overall I'm just very dissatisfied.

This would conflict with the palico gathering passively, though I do think it's a good idea overall.
The hook is a good thing imo, but it does feel like an extension of the seikret.
If the seikret didn't exist, the hook would be a absolutely flawless addition (but you can only use it once on stationary, multi-gathering spots like bonepiles and ore deposits, like it is now).

Eh, for the most part AT wasn't much worse than regular. Some attacks come faster, some attacks go from cart if not full to always cart if you aren't def-maxing. Other than that it just requires knowing a monster well and some awareness.
Here's a fun fact for you, guiding lands tempered monsters tend to have a very similar damage multiplier to the arch tempered versions. Purple velkhana in the guiding lands for example has a multiplier of around x17.5, AT has a multiplier of x18.75 and regular velkhana has a multiplier of only x10.50. Health multiplier, part breakability and other status don't matter as much. All it does is stop you from stunlocking velkhana in multiplayer.

My read is that they want to capture as many sales at launch as possible before negative word of mouth can dampen the sales rush, much like happened with Wilds and Dragons Dogma.
Wilds was the last MH game I’ll ever pre-order for sure, and if they don’t course correct from whatever horrible direction has cause it to be so terrible in terms of both gameplay AND technical issues, it may very well be the last one I buy period, and that’s coming from a hardcore fan who has been playing since 2004. Just a year ago I was arguing that MH is one of the few series I feel safe pre-ordering because they’ve been consistently high quality, and now my foot is in my mouth. I prefer Sunbreak's system because:
A. A lot of the skills actually work pretty well at lvl1. e.g. Bloodlust, Dereliction, Heaven-sent, and Powder Mantle. There could also be interesting interactions between them; like how Heaven-sent lv1 and lv2 enables Grinder. S while lv3 acts almost like a completely different skill. And how Dereliction's health drain was used almost solely to trigger Strife and Resentment so you only run lv1
B. They can always decide to later release them into the Charm or Qurio crafting skill pool.

Why I don't like Set Bonus Slop:
Evidently they aren't creative enough to come up with unique set bonuses for every group/mon, so they just turns regular situationally useful skills like Fortify and Resuscitate into a group skill, and that just made nobody use them because group skills are an pain in the ass to build towards. Honorable mention to Might bow being locked behind 4 pc. Legiana and Spare Shot behind Kirin in World.

Maybe in the giga-late-ultimate endgame these system would work similarly once everything is available everywhere. But Set Bonus Slop is especially limiting in early metas like rn in Wilds

I think apex monsters were never intended to be fought outside of rampages (especially because the lore behind them is exclusively tied to ibushi/narwa/rampages) but people complained so they gave them standard quests and ended up putting them in the investigation pool later on. Otherwise I see no reason why they never gave them armor since they could have easily just brought back deviant armor designs from GU since the apex monsters borrow heavily from GU deviants. Regardless it does feel strange to basically fight a different monster but not get different gear. I mean they're essentially like afflicted monsters (just the same mons powered up) but from what I remember apex monsters don't get exclusive materials like afflicted mons. I assume that's because rampage tickets and whatnot were supposed to stand in for that. I guess it's just more strange that they didn't give them gear in sunbreak. I'd agree whole-heartedly if I didn't find the other maps really easy to get around. That being said, I think an underrated aspect of the Nu-MHs is the improvements in map design. People hate the wilds maps but I really dig how they all feel really different as you play them. I hope portable 6 gives us an islandic-ish map with a volcano x snowy area for one of them.

it is possible but it is essentially reworking the entire game pipeline (rendering, model, animation). Pretty much telling that Tokuda did not expect people to dumpster because they thought 30fps baseline is good enough, so everything in the game is built off that expectation. You can just tell that because most weapon multihit does not have proper hit detection at higher fps.
Because they shot themselves trying to do this pseudo-live service shit that also meant even if a stable branch was built, every content already in the work must be optimized to work with current build. At best, it is minor patches (the game, in fact did not get any better after like 2 TU, and TU1 was cut content). So you aren't getting another stable build until master rank because that's is the only chance they ever get at actually shipping a build focus on performance.
