Nice! Old cafe reclaim or just someone downsizing? Been sipping on single lot panama geshas from minmax these last few weeks. Found 75g of a blend(?) of some leftovers sitting in a stack of cups so I should probably just rip some shots with the stepdown basket today. Pretty sure its mostly worka sakaro with a little anaerobic brazilian. Also been slightly conserving my good empirical water since I thought I was set to 4 month deliveries. Turns out I never saved it so I've got another batch otw :)

both? i think, i just had a short conversation with a friend and said they might be sending something my way "temporarily"
so they still want it but just need someone to take it off their hands for a while so they can figure out what to do with it or where to put it
but yeh excited regardless
after like 3(4?) years of moka and pour over and manual grinding it will be interesting to experience espresso and an electric grinder
i think from the picture its an "old" ECM Classika
i was going to(and probably still will) get a flair 58x whatever next year sometime but this will hopefully be able to inform me of if i even enjoy espresso and also if i do of what i like and how to achieve it
also who knows, maybe the robur(at least thats what i believe it is from the blurry picture) will change how i feel about electric grinders
also i have been told the machine has been "cleaned" but no word on the grinder so i might have to take that apart first to make sure there isnt years of ultra dark roast oils gunked up inside

Just keep in mind thats a burr set designed for the "pressure" of 2+kg in the hopper. It'll be hard to do a true head to head with the hg1p. I'd be crossing my fingers its the 71mm single phase set so you can try that out.

its not the classika its the Giotto
and the grinder looks exactly like a robur but it says "saeco" on the side
and it looks like the grind adjustment is done via 2 screws on the front

and the pressure gauge only goes up to 2.5 bar

Do some research. Looks like the old old ones had a tendency to burn out their control boxes? EAF is probably going to be your most responsive resource there. Could just be an old italian shitbox. Try not to electrocute yourself.

Ah gotcha. Superjolly with a fancier doser. Should be real simple(and reversible) to unscrew that and single dose. Who knows how much life in the burrs. Could be 20 years old at this point. If they end up letting you keep it for a while I'd suggest looking into lebrew/other 64mm churrs but you probably get fucked on the pricing like everything else. Wonder what postage to aus would be like for a few pairs of ceramic HUs.

im not planning on investing in the grinder as i already have one that works perfectly well
but i might buy some new/better tools/invest in the espresso machine and then ask if my friend will reimburse the cost
or if he simply doesnt want me poking around in his machine then fair enough and ill get out of it whatever i can.
luckily its already well seasoned so i dont need to buy beans to season it but i did go ahead and buy a few kilos because i assume its going to take me probably a kilo or more of playing with it to fully understand it.

The Giannina is with me, I'm just not using it for 1 cup brews since my Venus has the E&B filter.

My stomach is recovering well, this was my second coffee post surgery and I'm taking my chances making moka pot coffee rather than filter which is more gentle, but so far I'm quite fine, just minor discomfort.

The gut was healing until I had surgery, when it was fucked up for some reason (they had to do something there) and now I patiently have to wait and keep taking the antibiotics.

For the next coffee I'll switch back to filter coffee to avoid pushing my hand, because recovery takes time.

Thanks for asking. :D

It tasted good though!

The gas was already turned off by the time the moka was half full but the residual heat combined with the coarse grind which made the extraction quite fast achieved the vulcanic phase, even if it was quick.

The blend is 80% robusta and 20% arabica, dark chocolate and toasted bread with hazelnut notes. Low acidity.

Next time I'm going finer, since actually I ground coarse (2.6.0 on the JX Pro S) not because of the E&B filter slowing the flow but because since it's an Italian roast when they see "medium" roast it's actually close to dark.

Third wave is just the evolution of coffee, you know, like coffee had become boring and needed to move on. I only started drinking coffee with third wave so I don't have any experience prior to that, but it was boring and we needed to do something else. I mean, I don't even like coffee that tastes like coffee, you know, it's just gross. Dark roasts? Gives me the ick to be quite honest. Coffee needs to be like tea, but not boring. Like, pouring water on tea leaves? Major yawn. I need the gear, the process. That's what coffee is about at the end of the day.

Thinking about upgrading from my Flair Pro 2 to a Profitec Go. The Flair Pro 2 is good but the tedium of using it/pulling back to back shots is a significant drawback, and I have some money to blow on a nicer machine. I guess the question is whether I should also upgrade my grinder (J max) or stick with it and get a dedicated filter grinder since I also enjoy pour overs and the J max, while serviceable, isn’t ideal.

You can ruin a perfectly nice cup of coffee through bad technique and equipment
You can't save shit coffee no matter the equipment you're using
Use good beans
Anonymous No.21544109
>>21535861
I give you an example:
Ehefrau and me, when we use our 3 cups Bialetti, we grid the beans relatively fine, finer than recommended.
We use around 22 grams of ground coffee.

I have a very small spoon i use, that is even smaller than a normal tea spoon to fill the Bialettis funnel with ground coffe.
Normally, i take like three spoons at a time to fill into the funnel, then i streak over the ground coffee to make it evenly placed inside.
Aftet that, i bump the funnels nozzle on a hard surface to make the ground coffe settle and compact itself a little.
Repeat this process until you fit all the 22 grams of ground coffe in the funnel and use a tamper to compact it a little more. Don't press hard with force, just make it an even surface.

The Bialetti will then have to build up a slightly higher pressure to push the wather through the coffee.
It will be an even stronger coffee and will also build up a little foam.

Normally a Bialetti this size can only fit like 16 to 18 grams of ground coffee. We make it fit 21 to 22 grams.
While cooking, don't let it build up too much pressure, since it will channel too early and you get a lesser good extraction.
We usually extract very slowly.

Cheapest cookware to make half decent coffee in? I get a bag of coffee from my work each month and so far I've just been pouring boiling water over the grounds and waiting for them to settle
I have about $30 in my bank account and half of it is already reserved for alcohol

Pmuch already doing it. V60 pourover + a metal mesh filter to set inside it. An electric ceramic grinder is the real Quality of Life tool to make the coffee its best however you do it. The Jap ceramic base/ceramic filter 2-in-1 V60 are also nice as buy once cry once solutions if your budget can swing it. Just avoid the paper filterjew.

Never said it was, that’s an Italian medium-dark blend with robusta. The same I extracted last time with the moka, I wanted to try in pour over to remove the bitterness and the harshness, it was a success.

I bought supermarket coffee because I’m testing post surgery, didn’t want to risk splurging on good coffee just to leave it open for days/weeks. Luckily I’ve no problems and now I’ve got to drink it.

Will try espresso now.

Yes they do, you can also cut the 02 filters like I do.
I used a regular 02 filter because I was doing immersion brew, therefore it doesn't matter if there's agitation.
You can also use the back of a spoon to make a controlled pour or even pic related in your kitchen so you can pour high without agitating.

Kettle isn't important only when you're making immersion brews with the switch, at that point you may want to pour all the water as fast as you can without being precise.
