We're an open plan office. I can see his desk from mine. I always had an idea in the back of my mind to transmit data through audio cables. Like get two m/m audio extension cables, plug one end of one cable into the speaker port for one PC and the mic port for the other, then do the opposite with the other cable, then you can output sound directly from one PC to into another, and with some modulation you can send data.
I wonder if there's a potential $1b business in this.

That is a question for the future will there be EW counter measures. For sure the main thing you need to do first is make it encrypted. If its anything like networking protocols all unencrypted protocols are no longer valid.

Basically you can either fire and forget like UDP protocol or you can .FLAC it like TCP. However TCP is a hand shake protocol so both sides would have to communicate.

This however would likely be used for military or civilian security operations as a one way send. So you would interweave it in music UDP style and fill in the dots for missing info. If you want more detailed data to go through you would have a TCP format for the hand shake but would require 2 way communication. All similar concepts to RF but I am not in that industry so my info is very basic.

Yes but military applications on the field of battle would make that way to fucking obvious and harder to point. With RF you get semi directional data sent to an object but everyone can pick it up. With laser, light or IR everyone can see. With RF you can EW.

With sound you are much more limited on range but for sounds that are hard to determine like infrasound you could send the data with no one noticing its being sent. You would still have to worry about encryption. With directional sound you could make it alot harder to capture this data but if your trying to send a drone swarm then it would be a pain in the ass.

They are already using fiber optic drones why not make it audio through infrasound or some directional sound method. Yes to retransmit the data you would need something similar. In networking you would use a signal booster if the data cannot reach a certain point. It is dumb so it does not retain any data if you are cheap you use a media converter to do the same.

This metal diaphram might have to be tuned to the audios tone/tune or whatever the proper term is to retransmit it. If an attacker uses the same tone it can make it ineffective. But it would build nodes essentially in a network. If it stores and forwards it then it would suseptiable to hacking attempts but it would determine if its the right data coming in from the right person. Surely there is a way to build this network with previous concepts found in both RF and Networking.
