recession indicators don't work anymore because governments around the world have realized that recessions make voters cringe their eyes out. so instead of recessions which would bankrupt shitty companies and end bad business practices, and free up labor and capital for actually productive shit, we're going to have NO recessions. so we have been slowly sliding into a completely dysfunctional retard economy where half of all GDP revolves around useless minigames that produce nothing of value but continue to get bailed out because recession = bad
anyway recently we don't have recession indicators as much as people noticing the quality of life is going down and the wealth disparity is becoming more prominent and also more random

>>106265495
I drink electrolytes every single day. I wish it was that easy. I've tried magnesium, vitamen B, tracking a food diary, even got prescribed Triptans from my neurologist. The only thing I think that is related is when the weather changes dramatically I get them more often (from hot to cold quickly or cold to hot).

stop being mean to the IT department
Been working at my job for almost a year now, doesn't pay as well as the job I had before that but damn is my life piss easy. Only two "mandatory" office days, mandatory stop times, don't have to deal with vendors, don't need security clearance, project managers and supervisors are chill, benefits are good, best performer/second best performer on the team according to my quarterly performance review...only real negative is that I had to relocate to bumfuck hicksvilles nowhere so I can't pocket my full check by living with my parents. I could have spent the last year or so learning a new skill, or strengthening my fundamentals and theory, or making a videogame so I could hopefully one day stop being a slave to Mr Shekelstein and instead I've been masturbating and playing pirated video games on my hacked switch. If job precarity is near, I have no one to blame but myself...at least my physical fitness has improved exponentially.

my corpo gives every jeet a second chance, not even joking. If a white guy says a wrong word that is bye-bye, but if a jeet fails a round they can go to the next one to 'have another chance to demonstrate their skills'. Not even trying to hide it anymore.
>Looking for senior C++
>junior jeet with only Go xp
>let them do fizzbuzz in Go for god knows what reason
>fails spectacularly, can't into basic conditional branching all the if err!= nil checks are wrong

>now I have to spend 2 hours listening to a retard with broken english
>wtf is this shit, call out jeeterviewer
>show them the chatgpt evaluation of the exercise
>rated: non-coder
>jeeterviewer loops in jeetcruiter
>I get reprimanded and told to focus on the 2nd round
>as expected retard has no chance
>mark them as a heavy fail, please don't re-apply

well, not really my problem, but still gets my piss boiling

You'd be surprised what you can do if you aren't full retard desu. Only shit deal going to mechanic is the fact that he won't have a lot of inherent experience which seems to be 99% of how you stay afloat as a mechanic.
Literally you make money doing it by being under the labor rate for jobs and being aggressive in taking everything you know there is a labor arbitrage. It's a soulless and painful business to get into. Might be a fun hobby though. Expensive as fuck though.

Anyone have a boss like this? It's probably one aspect but most of the job seems to be like this.
>"Hi boss man, I got into touch with Person X to get in touch with you in order to weigh in on this important function Y, did he get back to you on it? I need to confirm this as much as possible."
>"No, but I did talk to Person X on 'completely irrelevant thing btw, did you see the email on 'completely irrelevant thing that's nowhere near as important as this other thing'"
It seems a lot of my conversations go like this and it's starting to frustrate me.
>"hi anon, did you take a look at ticket x?"
>"No, they didn't go through the proper channels. I'll take a look at it, but do you want me to do x, y, or z on it"
>"Thanks anon, we should talk about our intake on proper channels later."
Sure, I could probably be more assertive and take stuff into my own hands but doing that in the previous months backfired hard, so I've been just pushing back to leadership on exactly what to do only to get met with that.

Brahmins code in Powershell
So there was a company all-hands yesterday, and for some reason in one of the slides they had a map of all the new development offices. One was obviously in India, so they had a map of India. Apparently this was the """wrong""" map of india, because a bunch of the pajeet employees got super upset in the Teams chat and were writing things like "this is not the correct map, please replace ASAP" or "wrong india map" to our fucking CEO, LMAO. A bunch of them said they were going to "report" the slide deck??? What the fuck is wrong with Indians.

I think it's just the vibe of the whole industry being fucked. I don't have enough saved to retire, but I have enough that I feel no motivation to get another job. I am in tech purgatory. Maybe I'll switch to another industry and do something more lowkey. I see my friends at chiller local companies and they only have to 'compete' with a much smaller pool of people, whereas for me remote, I have to compete with the whole world it feels like.

I am in the middle of my project assessment in IT, but I feel like I couldn't care less.
I have trouble understanding or comprehending what people exactly tell me despite understanding what they said.
And I just want to disappear and rot away.
Their feedback is not landing on me and it shows:
- I write a submission form draft, repeating the problem every single time.
- I can't seem to focus on the conversation people have with me, without shortening.
- I know I am supposed to apply the feedback and I try, but my brain just returns back to racing into nothingness.
He calls me solution oriented, as in I jump into a solution without knowing and determining the problem on if it works or is applicable in the particular use case.
Genuinely I just want to think and orient myself to change the way I think in the same way as the other people who are successful, but I can't seem to give a single fuck.
I want to, but I have nothing to give.
Really, I just really couldn't care about it outside liking to help people with their existing problems I can grasp and solve via tickets.
I have some drafts that really apply to a genuine problem the company is currently solving and it's as great as it gets as a feedback on their strategy, but formulating and explaining the problem, the issues that stem from the problem, scope them into a size that fits to create a solution, then explain why it's the answer to their solution?
What's the motivation?
I forget it in my attempt to work on it again and again without anything getting better.
Gonna go through some recorded tutorial videos and really try to get the essence the way I understand it, I just hope can at least do more about everything in my life than emulate to just get to the weekend or into my own 4 walls.
>applying to positions
>Every one of them asks if you require sponsorship on the application

i don't think they necessarily want you to suffer, but i think they insert themselves into various processes in order to feel useful. but the practical result of that is that they just end up creating friction and slowing things down for no reason
>only way to through this hell-hole unscathed, is to develop Buddha-like stoicism and not give a single fuck about anything
this is true though.
but i think if you want to minimize the friction, you do need to ask for their input while gently guiding them towards the obvious answer, but without outright saying it. like "hm, we could try boiling the water, but i'm not sure if that would work for pasta" so they can chime in and say "yes, boil that water ". that way they can feel useful but without causing you extra work

190-220k is like IT engineering (CCIE, masters, 15+ years experience). EM is majority of the programmers or actual engineering with masters/doctorates to back it up in lieu of shitloads of experience.
Beyond that you got VP's and C-Suite that make crazy money often with bonuses included for X production.

I always had an idea in the back of my mind to transmit data through audio cables. Like get two m/m audio extension cables, plug one end of one cable into the speaker port for one PC and the mic port for the other, then do the opposite with the other cable, then you can output sound directly from one PC to into another, and with some modulation you can send data.
I wonder if there's a potential $1b business in this.

It might be misleading because the rise of global equities has made compounding wealth that much larger. But there isn't this sense of "the poors and the nobles" like there was in pre industrial Europe so it isn't quite the same. 80% of people were in rags and were forced to walk shoulder to shoulder and see the top 1% every day from their homes and hovels, for us now it's more like the top 0.0001% skew the metric and we can go our whole life without seeing them.

i wouldnt say a modern day poor has as hard a life as a peasant 250 years ago, but they gave it a good shot
the main reason i dont like capital consolidating so much is because it makes the economy irrational and slowly drains everyone's quality of life in subtle ways. if our wealth was actually in the hands of those who actually work and provide services and useful things to society, we would've never collectively wasted 46 billion worth of labor and resources on metaverse or any other retarded vanity project. the more capital concentrates in the hands of a few retarded billionaires, the more we're collectively going to waste our effort making dumb useless shit that no one needs, like giant mansions, yachts, dumb tech projects, various agencies explicitly for the megarich, and so on. the more we do stuff like that, the less time and effort we have left for securing a better and fairer society overall. and for what it's worth, the rich weren't quite as detached from reality 100 years ago so they may have built a library or a school as their preferred vanity project.
it's not just billionaires though, boomers owning half the wealth despite being 20% of the population really fucks shit up big time. the pay for a lot of average jobs is generally getting shittier due to having to subsidize some retired boomer's extravagant lifestyle. so you end up in our current situation: people (especially zoomers) don't want to get jobs if they can help it, purchasing power is collapsing, and retired boomers are becoming increasingly nervous with the value of their assets (house and portfolio) buckling under the pressure (as that article shows). and governments are kinda unwilling to let boomers ever suffer even the slightest inconvenience, they're probably going to force more legislation to secure boomer wealth, which is going to make everything just worse

How do I even handle or look for advice for this? I don't know if it helps but sometimes he'll just hijack my work after I finish like 50% of it and it annoys the shit out of me because I have no visibility to it nor any impact on something that I did. We create repair tasks for the backlog based on incidents we see, and we still have Product Managers that we work with for feature work... but in terms of prioritization and choosing what to do, we basically manager ourselves. It's honestly kind of comfy. I haven't had to deal with a 1:1 in like 4 months.

Not currently but I have had 3. Let's call them Jared, Sam and Arthur.
Jared was alright, pretty cool guy initially, we had some things in common. He slowly turned on me and attempted to bully me by making me the butt of every joke he told. I have my theories as to why. He wasn't sociable or outgoing enough to keep up momentum on his attempted bullying campaign and I can be quite outgoing so I socially isolated him. I also let him shoot himself in the foot multiple times with regards to work. He eventually went on medical leave supposedly for mental health issues and later came back for a month then quit. He was somewhat capable at his work but lazy and vocally proud of this.
Sam was a cunt sometimes. Say 20% of the time he would be a dick and the rest he was okay. This guy would be fine without the Jekyll Hyde thing he had going on. Least bad of the 3. Highly capable.
Arthur was the biggest bootlick and brown noser I've ever met. He was fat too. Similar to Jared he was another one that started off friendly and turned hostile over time. It's harder to describe Arthurs hostility though, it's like he would attempt to casually elevate himself and downplay me if that makes any sense. I think he saw me as a rival or a roadblocker for his ascent to the top or something. Arthur was completely useless though, entirely incapable of doing the job he was hired for (senior developer lol). He would namedrop the manager a lot, butt right into all conversations within a 20 metre radius and just generally annoy the shit out of everyone. He was booted after probation ended. We nicknamed him DINO, Developer In Name Only.

I have a code question
this.logger.logState('connected', this.accountUsername)
this.workerHealthMetrics.handleConnectionEvent({
workerId: this.workerId,
eventType: 'connected',
timestamp: new Date(),
})
I'm working on a distributed job queue. I have many occurrences like the above, where for the same business event I both log it so it gets promtailed to loki and I also increment a metric for prometheus. I'm wondering if I should abstract it into a service so I'd just make 1 call instead like:
this.telemetry.workerConnected({
workerId: this.workerId,
username: this.accountUsername
});
The current way is explicit and readable. On other hand, the single call to a TelemetryService feels cleaner and If I ever wanted to add a third thing, like sending an event to an analytics stream, I'd only have to change it in one place. But if I'm being real the reason I even thought about doing it just to have le cleaner code with less "boilerplate". Is it a pointless abstraction/bad coupling?

Yeah hence my intuition that I should do the refactor. But on the other hand in the grand scheme of things it is more readable for it to be explicit
>log call
>metric update call
than to add a call to a method a service that essentially obfuscates what is going on. Still not sure tbqh.

Got an offer for mid 7 figures for my company. My thinking is
Pros
>I get to stay on if I want to with a salary that's nearly triple what I've been paying myself
>My cofounder wants to sell and I'm sick of dealing with him anyways since he's been checked out for 2 years at this point
>With my existing portfolio + this payout I'll be pretty financially free
>The company making the offer has a decent track record, from what I've seen most of their prior acquisitions are doing fine
Cons:
>Minus dealing with my partner and all the non-technical stuff I like our niche and working on the product though I don't get to do as much of that as I'd like anymore
It seems pretty clear-cut when I type it out like this but still not sure what to do. I'm kind of concerned also that it'd be a premature exit and that I'd be letting my only opportunity to make big money go. I'd probably try to start something new afterward but it's obviously highly uncertain if it'd succeed.

No, I meant you should not do the refactor (or at least, there's no reason to), because you're not repeating anything 3 times. If you had 3 cases where you were logging and persisting a metric and whatever else you're doing, then you should refactor it into a method so you can call that method 3 times rather than repeating each line

I was still able to cheat through the projects with AI and on the in-person tests with my phone and some finesse (very nerve-wracking and scary though.
Obviously, I can't solve any interview questions. I'm the same Space Force guy as before. Do I just go Space Force and learn programming in my free time (im kinda coping)?

fucking hell working in a windows vdi sucks. The company I just recently got a job at as a devops engineer had given me a vpn that I could run on my linux machine for a bit but now they are switching to one of those device managed vpns that ensures its on a company managed device. that would be fine if the macbook they gave me actually had sudo access and I could install brew or anything really on it. I just want a linux terminal and neovim. is that too much to ask? ok whatever, I can just use wsl, git-bash, and do everything in there right? kind of uncomfortable but it works and is somewhat doable. no. nothing is persistent on these vdi's it wipes itself every night so you can't have a persistent environment. I have to reinstall wsl, setup git, and install neovim every fucking day. want to look literally anything up? nope, you don't have any access outside of the internet. do they expect me to program in notepad???? The staging vdi doesn't even work at all either, only the production one, so I have to test on production servers. How do companies get this way? why the fuck would they hire me and say "actually you can't do any work, sorry"
At least it's better than my old job where I was working upwards of 60-70 hours a week.

my boss at this new company is pretty based though, I point blank asked for vpn access and he gave it to me, but ofc now that's a pointless gesture given that I cannot run it on my linux machines anymore. Maybe I should just fucking backdoor the prod and staging environments lmao.
tbf all of this shit should be virtualized locally for testing anyways, however none of that has happened, so I guess I have my work cut out for me.

My company actually gives a shit and pays attention to our cash flow coming in from customers in the past 2ish years
Also, I make $165k and have not made any significant life changes in how I spend, but gradually my take home after taxes and retirement has begun to match my monthly outtake and I'm not actually making savings anymore.

rent control in conjunction with proper renter's rights as employed in certain places works. american-style "we did it wrong on purpose" (((rent control))) where they just make up values based on historical property taxes and say "no increases EVER" in a scheme specifically designed to fail unsurprisingly tend to fail
it's kinda like american public transit. america likes to do "socialist" things wrong on purpose to "prove" they dont work, like a child who does chores intentionally wrong hoping he won't be asked to do them again
>>106279629
UBI is a dumb concept imo because more graceful forms of welfare exist but
>6 bed house worth of value
actually functional welfare programs generally give more gibs based on family size. if you have 5 children you would get a 6 bed house worth of rent subsidy.
>pay for repairs
if you are on welfare you shouldn't be rich enough to own a house you do your own repairs on; repairs are the responsibility of the landlord. if you own your own house and can't afford it maybe you should try getting a job
>cost of living went up X amount of dollars that UBI gives
this is why other economic/commercial policy needs to be in place to prevent unscrupulous business owners from going "oh i'll just raise prices then" and creating the exact same problem as before (i.e. prevent rent increases larger than natural inflation, fix prices of staple goods, etc)

it worked in Quebec until retarded boomers fucked everything up by repealing half the laws
>rent may not increase by more than 10% or bank of canada inflation number, whichever is higher
>if you are currently renting a place, you are ENTITLED to renew the lease if you want, even if the property changes hands or similar
>lease renewal is automatic; a tenant has to actively say "I dont want to live here anymore and wont renew" and it has to be in writing
>transferring a lease is similarly automatic and has a very small list of reasons it can be denied
>if your apartment needs work on it, landlord gotta pay and can't push that onto the tenant by imposing fees
>if work ISN'T done and the tenant does it themselves, the tenant can bill the landlord for it
>some little other stuff like deposits can't exceed a month's rent, deposits have to be given back unless you have actual bills for work done as a result of the tenant living there, can't charge for keys, landlord has to give notice to visit the unit, etc
it kept rents very low for a long time and there were lots of provisions to block the usual slumlord scams like "renoviction" or just shutting off the water or whatever until you leave. but about a year ago they repealed some stuff and fucked everything up

Currently looking at either Cybersecurity or a more general Computer Systems & Networks degree.
I'm thinking that at least Cybersecurity will be safe from offshoring because of security clearance requirements, but worry that it'll get me passed over for more general jobs in sysadmin, networking etc compared to the more general degree.

Just do what interests you overall. Unless you go to a really good school with great business outreach (aka extremely expensive and overall not worth it), get great internships, and study well outside of your selected courses you're going to start in help desk. Of course that depends on what the economy looks like in 4 years, but by then we might all be out of job.
My recommendation? Don't go into IT unless you absolutely love it, you're top 2% intelligent, AND you have a silver tongue. To survive let alone thrive in it it will consume your entire life and pay you very little compared to if you went something else. The return on investment is just plain bad now and you're competing with the entire world. If you're in the west you need to be worth the money, and to be worth the money you aren't going to have a life.

IDK man. Things are REALLY bad right now in IT and worse than other jobs. But if you actually dedicate your life to something else like you would be forced to in IT, only to end up making 50k a year max with on-call and off the clock studying, you could easily make it somewhere else. Between AI, general automation advances, jeets and offshoring it is harder than ever and it doesn't look like any one of those are letting up. Like I said, you gotta be worth the money so you'll be a slave at best, and even if you do make it you aren't going to have time to spend that hard earned cash. I don't recommend it at all, but it could all miraculously work out like if they stopped offshoring or jeet importing.

The job market is so bad right now I'm wondering if I should ask the local sparkies if they'll take on my fat pushing 40 arse as an apprentice

The offshoring is why I'm considering cybersecurity for those government/defence jobs that require you to be a citizen. Can't offshore for national security reasons so that would be one positive at least.

I've barely looked into the trades but I wonder if HVAC might be worth looking into, since the globe is going to keep getting warmer.

I can't wait to go to the office.
Also I did discover that canonical is at it again and the standard yq amd xq are replaced with some oc donuts.
So much for portability.

I got ac. It's just not reasonable and ecological to use it 24/7. I turned it on during noon and when it cooled, I turned it off. At the office, where there are more people it's more economical.

Wholesale electricity prices have been 0.41 cents/kWh today. Might as well run the AC all day long.

They just cut the overloving fuck out of those jobs. Haven't you seen the news?
