I've been thinking about tailsos

now I've never used it so this question may or may not be stupid

If I have tailsos on a pendrive and I connect that pendrive to another device wiht a different os on it, can I then boot into tails in order to more privately use that machine?

Any danger with using a cheap GaN charger from a reputable company?

Picrel on sale at ASDA. One of the big 4 supermarkets in Bongistan. Typical for supermarkets or other big chain stores, they have their own ranges of basic electronics. Just basic stuff made for them by probably a big Chinese factory, with their own brand label slapped on it, and sold for cheaper than famous brands.

This is your typical 65W 3-port charger. Cost is 22 bongbux, while Ugreens and Ankers of the same spec usually go for 30-40 bongbux on Amazon and direct.
But picrel is on sale right now for 11 bongbux. I'm very tempted to pick one up. But...it feels TOO cheap. Too cheap to be safe? Like that's why they're getting rid of stock? None of the supermarkets including ASDA are known for selling dangerous electronics or anything. If it was really dangerous there would be a recall right, instead of a discount?
Anonymous No.106273608 >>106273867
>>106273378
A recall is issued only if the product is dangerous. If it's just unreliable shit then they'll sell it and hope that people don't bother returning when it inevitably breaks.
Generally, multiport chargers are shit compared to singleport ones – once you plug the second device, most chargers switch to a retarded mode where they barely output any power, sometimes 5V2A per port or even less. All chargers, no matter how expensive, cut the power to all ports when a new device is plugged in, so you won't be able to use that charger to power something that doesn't have its own battery.
I have two IKEA 45W two-port chargers, they are not bad despite the issues mentioned above. Also, IKEA sell long USB C braided cables, those are really good compared to what you can find on Amazon or other retailers.

I wouldn't consider Asda electronics, they only sell shit.

yt-dlp works kind of inconsistent and all the normie ways of downloading YouTube videos have been taken down or only offer audio and video separately, usually in low res. Any alternatives? Preferably ones for a brainlet.

Thanks
Well as long it's not dangerous I might just take a punt on it for 11 quid. Won't cry if it breaks in a couple of months.

I note the point you make about not being able to power stuff without a battery because of the reset when you plug something new in. Like a RasPi. But this wouldn't be for that. This would just be for my laptop + phone.

I was actually holding out on getting a GaN charger, I don't have one yet. Holding out because
1) They don't seem like a perfected technology yet (even Anker and Ugreen models have a somewhat high failure rate) when I look at ratings/reviews.
2) Was going to get a 100W one, so it can charge my laptop (65W) at full speed but also have more to give to phone. And obviously those are going to be even more expensive than the good 65W models. I have no urgent need for it, was waiting til I next travel abroad to get one.

But for 11 quid, as long as it's not dangeorus, I'll take it. Could do with another 'fast' charger around the house. The only ones I have right now is a max 22W single A port Xiaomi charger that came with a phone, and a C port coming out of my monitor.

(also yeah IKEA cables look very reasonably priced, cheaper than Anker/Ugreen cables? might buy some next time I go there)

Would any kind Anons help a noob out? I have Spectrum internet and the connection quality is spotty and laggy so I was thinking about trying to get a third party modem/router. Do you Anons have any recommendations on what might be the best one or are there no significant differences? Also, any recommendations on an ethernet chord? I think a problem I'm having at the moment is mine is a little busted up which is affecting the signal between the Modem and Router. I was thinking about getting a 3rd Party one off Amazon, but I see a lot of them have gold-plated connections and I remember back day getting an HDMI cable like that and it being horrible, so I don't want to make a mistake like that again.

Sounds like you know what you're doing, and Β£11 is a good deal considering the warranty.
If you want a high quality power adaptor at some point, the Steam Deck charger is excellent and reasonably priced (you get one for free if you buy their USB-C dock) and Apple laptop chargers are generally good.
The free Xiaomi chargers tend to be excellent, however they require their special Type A cable to deliver high power, and I wasn't able to source genuine Xiaomi cables yet (apart from the one I got with the phone).
If you want exceptional features for cheap (such as 5V5A), there are GaN adapters "for Raspberry" on AliExpress, I got a couple and they are very decent.
I just found this on AliExpress:

I tried installing it and the answer is: NO.
This project depends on nvidia-pyindex, which only supports Linux.
From nvidia-pyindex, it's supposed to fetch nvidia-tensorrt, but they only publish Linux builds: https://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/redist/nvidia-tensorrt/

If you **need** to get this running, start by installing Ubuntu 22.04 on a computer with Nvidia GPU, then `sudo apt install nvidia-cuda-toolkit nvidia-cudnn build-essential` and follow the instructions from that huggingface page.

>gold-plated connections
This is almost always a lie, there is no gold and even if there were any then it would scrape off the first time you plug the cable in.
Buy cables from reputable companies (some good chink ones are Ugreen, Kenable) or go with Amazon Basics. What you absolutely want to avoid is any mention of Aluminium or CCA.
Do not fall for Cat7-8, since Cat5e cables are more than sufficient for 5Gbit/s at up to 100m.
Don't sweat too much over the decision, it's not that important.
>modem
First establish whether the modem part is slow, or the router+WiFi part. Do speed tests over direct cable connection and see if you get the advertised speed of your plan. If you do, then the modem is good and you can switch it to bridge mode and shove another router into it, doesn't have to be a whole new modem and there's more choice.
>router
I'm terms of router, I had excellent WiFi coverage with an Asus RT-AC87U but it's old and unsupported. I got a Mikrotik router to replace it and I'm very disappointed with it, today I'd probably buy this https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-be9300/

Also, if the problem is only limited to WiFi, you can buy only an additional Access Point to be placed in a poorly covered area, this could prove to be the cheapest and easiest solution.

>there is no notification on my ipad requesting the login code.
Generally this is accomplished by stealing the session ticket or cookie from an existing device. After you log in (with or without 2FA), your client stores a session token allowing it to continue being logged in.
>How can that happen?
It says suspicious activity, not login, so I wouldn't worry about it. The provider is retarded for even passing this information to its users, there's nothing you can do to prevent random people from trying to log in to random accounts, nor is this dangerous in any way (unless the provider is retarded and insecure to begin with).

There are many tonemapping algorithms. The ones supported by ffmpeg are: https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html#:~:text=tonemapping

You could instead download the hdr file and configure tonemapping locally in your video player. I think MPV player uses ffmpeg's auto feature directly so it might be better than the limited algorithms in VLC player - this might be able to detect if the video file has dynamic HDR10+ metadata and use st2094-40 instead of the default (probably hable like VLC player).

I believe the private browsing instance is also separate from a non-private instance, so they wouldn't share cookies on the user end, but with user profiling being as advanced as it is, it would pretty damn obvious to the server/website that the two connections coming from the same IP with identical OS are the same person. So while the site won't expose that link to the user (and share cookies across sessions), they'll definitely do it on their end for data harvesting.

NAME SIZE TYPE FSTYPE MOUNTPOINT UUID
sda 7.3T disk
─sda1 7.3T part ext4 /media_two
sdb 7.3T disk
─sdb1 7.3T part ext4 /media
sdc 111.8G disk
─sdc1 111.8G part ext4 /ssd
sdd 12.7T disk
sde 12.7T disk
─sde1 12.7T part ext4 /media_three

Is the arch wiki "Convert a single drive system to RAID" the best resource to go through with this?

They're all non-boot drives for a NAS. I can unmount them freely.
Only "issue" I can think of is the /sdd drive is 7200 rpm, all the other drives are 5400rpm. But afaik it'll just run at slower speeds.

why two raid1's and not just one raid1? if it's because they're not the same size or you don't want to waste space, btrfs's raid1 supports mixed size drives and by default does two copies of data regardless of how many drives are used

but sure, do that instead and miss out on;
- one volume you can put everything onto instead of two
- snapshots/compression/subvolumes/reflinks/etc
- easily add/remove/upgrade individual drives at any time
- checksums and automatic healing (mdadm has no way to know which copy in a raid1 is correct if a disc has an error, you have to handle that yourself, not that you'd know if there was one, because ext4 also can't tell if data has gone bad)

I still have the tab open with the webm but was not quick enough to download it and now it's deleted.
I can still play it just fine in the tab.

I'm in the cache folder right now
>/home/user/.cache/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Default/Cache/Cache_Data
but can't find it. I sorted everything >file size and searched for the file size of the webm but nothing just a bunch of tiles of a movie I streamed 2 hours ago.

>Why are 16:10 monitors so rare?
The large sheets of glass they cut apart to make TVs and computer screens are usually sized to be divided into 16:9 ratio panels since that became the dominant aspect ratio.
ThinkPads were originally 4:3, then when they went "wide" they used 16:10 because it give more usable vertical space until eventually caving and adopting 16:9. Though it sounds like they've gone back to 16:10, which is nice. Other outliers include MacBooks, which are also 16:10, and the entire Surface line is 3:2.

bs reasons
USB audio circuitry is cheaper, simpler, and less expensive than the audio circuitry and bluetooth circuitry in wireless headphones. No batteries, either.
I would suggest sticking to headphones and earphones with replaceable cables. You could also stick to USB audio adapters + wired headphones. Adapters are dirt cheap ($10-20), and then easier to replace if they break if they aren't permanently attached to your headphone.
Then there's just using a bluetooth headphone/headset. It's up to you.

My mom retired and she needs a PC for 1080p (ideally 4k) youtube/netflix/streaming, email, video conferencing, and google sheets/docs level stuff with at least 2 but ideally 3 monitors. Should I get her a Raspberry Pi 5 16GB (I'd probably wait for 6) with a case/peripherals + webcam, get an upper mid-range chromebook, or blow more money on a minipc with an ~N100 running windows 11 natively? Even to get a good corsair or seasonic PSU for a fullsize desktop is getting expensive.

I have a very important stupid question.

I have a rewritable CD. Win10 says there is 250MB of data written on it. In reality, only 55MB of actual data is on the disc.
How can I find out what's on the remaining ~200MB of used space?

The data in question are important medical scans for my relative.
There are supposed to be 6 images there. Only 2 can be found. Even with the remaining 4 images the max amount of space used should still be around 135MB.

Yes, the hospital staff are retards. Complete waste of oxygen retards.
I suspect they somehow allocated the space on the disk, but never written anything on it.

...

OK, I managed to solve it! While typing out and organizing my thoughts, I decided to run Recuva (recovery tool) on the disk.

These complete braindead utter morons don't know how to write a disc and overwrote the data in two different sessions! Luckily, the sectors weren't overwritten, but holy fuck, these fucktards are a waste of my tax money. Socialized healthcare combined with Karens are a goddamn plague deserving to be exterminated.

probably written in multiple sessions, this is usually more of a cd-r thing since you can rewrite a cd-rw completely if you want to.
to explain a bit more, a cd-r can only be written to once, but more technically, any particular part of the disc can only be written to once, so multi-session exploits this by leaving a written session "open" such that you can later write more data on the unwritten parts of the disc later. you can't erase or overwrite data on a cd-r, so the space used keeps going up even if you "delete" files

All bugs are a consequence of human error, both software and hardware bugs.

that's why you have to write tests and only release it to the public then.

the most popular software projects have 100000s of tests that checks for the most basic, medium and advanced cases.

then you have the most complicated bugs that only show up when a completely unrelated sequence of commands is executed

Yes, single event upsets (SEU) caused by high energy cosmic rays are completely unpredictable and the reason why Carrington events could be devastating.

But 99.99999% of the time its just shitty coding by shitty coders. Humans are not perfect and the more enormous the codebase, the exponentially more difficult to keep it consistent and prevent unpredictable conflicts.

Yes, you're correct.
Except the CD in question was completely rewritable and I reformatted it myself before giving it to my relative. The retarded hospital staff indeed wrote in sessions without erasing, that's why I could recover the data. Still, I find it unusual that Win10 would indicate used space this way, though it's been more than a decade since I had to use rewritable CDs like this.

The moron Karen at the desk apparently even said that there is already a bunch of data written on the disk and some stupid shit about lack of space, due to the discoloration. She was trying to be smartass, but in the end it was two computer illiterates being stupid between themselves, while missing the point entirely.

It's just infuriating they can't even do basic shit, be it computers or medical stuff, yet we are forced to go there and pay taxes for this shit. I have to be the doctor and IT guy in the family, but I get jackshit aside from endless frustration.

I need to set up a VPN for work so one sick employee can connect and do their job from home. Pretty much everything we use is on the LAN side of the firewall. We have a windows active directory domain with smart card authentication required for most users. I'd be issuing this person a company Windows laptop joined to the domain already.
So which, in principle, is less secure:
1. Host Windows RAS VPN on a domain controller (or a new windows server) and set up firewall rules that allow the minimum amount of access for the server to work (its a Sonicwall, I can be extremely granular), or
2. Get a new computer, install Windows server on it, put it on the WAN side of the firewall, install RAS, join the NAS, a Domain Controller, and the enterprise resource planning software server to said VPN.
