That's something I'm doing but I'm really struggling to get nice, hard edges especially with textured brushes where edges often fade or are just inconsistent. Since I'm also trying to only use one layer erasing isn't a very viable strategy. I have no idea how to get the nice hard edges that other people get.

Just did this one quick to try the perspective as im in the middle of drawing something else. I at least avoided cheating. So that means no lasso, no overlay, no bullshit...just a good ol fashioned boss fight

sometimes. take a break and return to it a little later after you calmed down, do something you enjoy to recharge your batteries and attack it again. in this case a fresh start might work, but do some prior sketching of references close to the comission. i never done any, but thats how i would prepare and deal with the onset frust. preparation is crucial and dont stress too much, its not like you have a short time to finish it? and if you cant make it or whatever, remember, its important to keep your customer informed, even if its "bad" news. not saying anyhting, he'll think everything is dandy.

How would you improve this?

I think I am going to change my whole approach to drawing after making this. It was over 100 layers and I was constantly using references and erasing and brute forcing things to make it work. I want to get better at making effortless simple and appealing sketches. I was thinking I should just go straight to paper with ink and just accept that they suck ass for a few months before they start looking presentable. The thing is with digital drawing my initial sketch is always bad. I just have to get something on the paper that I can adjust. I don't have the ability to see the drawing before I have drawn it. I can only draw something, notice what's off and use references to try to fix it.

His art is amazing, but if you look at it at it's base, his best features are shape retention and perspective shift. He is capable of keeping the silhouette recognizable through multiple iterations, these would be what I suggest you work on if you are going for manga/comic creation, the details and shading will come to you as you grow into your art, but those other two thing require actual practice patience and persistence. Line weight is also an often overlooked thing to practice with.

Do you mean the whole jaw, the part of the jaw that's jutting out past the mouth, or both? The jaw jutting out past the mouth I doesn't seem wrong to me since mine ended up looking slanted upwards instead of the original's slant downwards, so it makes sense maybe, but I definitely see that the line of the entire jaw is way longer in mine, so I get that one

I'm probally not that much more expeirnced than you are, I'm about high-beg in terms of what I can consistentley draw so take this with a grain of salt

If you have a tablet then do a master when you copy his art directley, otherwise I would reccomend you just to find a reference of a real person and draw/study them, its not the fun awnser but you will learn alot more about how things are supposed to look and when you do master studies you will be able to apply this when you stylize. I would also reccomend Tomio Ogatos art. He's my personal favorite artist, his style is a bit different to Kubos but still has that "cool" factor that Kubos art has so you may like it.

You can download a drawing app(ibispaint or whatever), take both the picture of your drawing and the reference, line them up one on top of the other, make top layer transparent, and you should be able to see exactly what it is you did wrong. Then try drawing it again and again, chacking each time, and you should be able to get more accurate results over time.
Just a trick you can do.
You can also just email the pics to your computer if you have a drawing software on there, instead.

How should a /beg/ go about learning anatomy?
I feel like if I'm going to start with learning how to draw all of the major muscles and bones it will bog me down and make me unable to draw bodies for the next couple of years, however without knowing at least some of those major muscles and how they work in a body will make my bodies look off.
Should I go with figure drawing? Or gesture drawing? What's the difference between the two? People seem to use these terms interchangeably.
And if not either of those, should I try to copy references from pinterest and other sources? Feels like I'll just be learning how to copy references, if I don't know what I'm trying to draw in the first place.
Like, is there a way to learn how to draw basic bodies with passable proportions so that I can build on that and develop my knowledge further by seeing which body parts are lacking?

The arm is intentional. Somethings off about how i colored and shaded squidward. I tried going blue-er, but it kind of removed a lot of "squidwardness" from him. At the same time, I feel like the blue-turqoise mix i have going on right now is rather generic/boring looking. Your photography skills are going to be a great asset in various drawing related skills like composition, lighting/values, colors and most importantly observation. Running a course program is going to give you the direction you need, try to be honest to yourself whether you are ready to advance or should linger and redo certain lessons alternating certain exercises when you aren't sure you grasped the point of the lessons. When you accidentally draw a real person (someone else added the sunglasses to my drawing but still, lol).

Trying to draw faces/come up with character looks is giving me anxiety, I want to do a semi realistic looking comic, maybe a bit stylized but has realism looks to it. I don't want my characters looking manga-y or cartoony. So of course it's making it more difficult. I can't even seemingly sketch features properly, maybe its because I'm drawing too small, idk. But how tf do I decide what details to omit/add to a sketch to make it look 3D and not just random lines? Or is it because I haven't touched any sort of shading/rendering yet? Getting into drawing different expressions is a whole other level of anxiety I've yet to tackle. I'm mainly deadlocked at just the construction stage, even then everything's off.

No matter what I do/whatever I watch, the lips and nose are always the biggest headache for me, the eyes are bad too but I can't even get the mouth/nose looking decent/3D at all most of the time.The sketch isn't great because I was mainly just bsing around. Even when I'm not though its a struggle.

Is it because I haven't applied and sort of shading/rendering/cross contour lines?

Driving myself absolutely insane learning Gesture Drawing

Learning heads and faces was fun because it was all mathematical and scientific. I could feel myself getting better with time as I got used to proportions

But gesture drawing is so much "vibes" and fucking "draw what you see" that I feel like I'm not making any progress at all. Even on genetic stick figures.

Hmmm, if it's gesture drawing maybe change the way you think about the figures. Rather than stick figures think of each line as a motion or action, and when combined they all show a greater movement.
Maybe this will help or not, when I do gestures I don't like to think about the individual limbs and where they should go correctly, that can lead to stiff looking figures.
