Try to limit yourself to a single line thickness and focus more on the movement and form of the subject. Texture is important, but it's more important to capture the essence of the subject first and foremost. I'm not sure what Proko is teaching you, but honestly I think you'd be better served to start Peter Han now (and do it in trad with fineliners). He'll give you sketching fundies that will enrich every single thing you draw going forward.

Last I checked the entire DS1 course is on YouTube as well. It's at your own pace. I wouldn't pay for the course.

Sketching on trad with pen makes you commit to your lines. If you fuck up then you either need to work with that mistake by changing the drawing or you need to start over. That sounds needlessly difficult, but it's really quite important for developing good habits.

A copic marker. At start I just wanted to test it on hair, but I did it in a hurry and some intrusive thought made me try to outline the whole thing, and I ruined the right eye and fuck me.
Also a question. Is there any technical difference betwenn a brush pen, like a pigma brush pen and copic markers? I bought this black marker in the heat of moment, but in a second thought, maybe it wasn't the ideal choice for what I wanted.
I bought some Sakura Microns and a gray marker I want to test making shadows with. But just the black one came right now. So I'm playing with that for now.

Ah I see, it might have not ended too well, but experimenting is about as good as training, it's a good process for discovery and shows you have passion to figure shit out on a whim.

Brush pens have a notable amount of flex to them, this affects line width, shape and amount of ink deposited on the paper depending on the pressure and speed with which you move the pen across the paper, they are very variable and versatile, but require a mechanical finesse to properly get the effects you want. Copic markers have stiffer tips, both the bullet tip and chisel are harder and they have less variance in line weight when it comes to pressure and speed, they are more predictable and that can be a good thing. The thing is that chisel tips can be a pain when you want to outline things because it's easy to end up with a jagged linework if position the tip incorrectly or don't have enough practice to put continuous fluid lines on paper, bullet tips are better in this regard but you're not getting a lot of variance.
The microns are probably going to be your good friends for linework and hatching, they act very similar to a felt bullet nib but thinner, while the gray and black will be good to make wide areas of shadow.

Super cute! From what i see she dosen't look at cake. Her nose position indicate that face is slightly up so you should not see so much top head volume.
Mouth should go a bit higher and iris should be little diagonal towards cake sience it's close to her. Blush is not directly under eye but more on a side.
I reccomend drawing heads in some extreme angles and see how face features overlap each other. Also perspective studies help alot.

Anons I am going for it and copying a huge, multi-character spread while trying to really focus on the construction sketch phase like I was advised to. Here is what I got done today; I tried my absolute best to get not only the "depth" each character was at, but also the proper shape and length of their bodies in the first sketch. I will post the ref in another post; I posted in the asg and thought I had here as well but I clearly fucked up and forgot to. Please, any advice or critique is welcome.

While what >>7694346 said is true it doesn't have anything to do with drawing bigger in particular lmao, the reason for drawing bigger is that it helps in a lot of ways, first of all you are not drawing everything from the wrist, which leads to better flowing lines and less likelihood of chicken scratching, but it mostly helps to get a better sense of proportion and composition, it forces you to plan out a bit more where the drawing sits on the page and how big everything is. If you are drawing digitally you should actually do it a bit differently in my opinion, start your sketch with the canvas not completely zoomed in, but instead at a zoom level where you can clearly see the edges of the canvas, there put down a few lines to get a sense of the composition, then you zoom to where you see the whole drawing an don't zoom in until you've finished the sketch, zooming in early usually leads to completely off proportions (as you don't have any landmarks to compare)

When drawing from imagination you usually start by drawing the center line first before the features so it's a matter of placing the features correctly, when drawing from reference you infer the center line mostly from the nose mouth but neither are things that have any special method or secret to it, just practice. You can try to draw it over the reference and the place the same line on your drawing but this is something that comes with time, from the heads you have posted on this threads the only suggestion I have is to try to spend a little more time on each.

My brain uses different eye for long and close distance and filters the other eye's image. I know it's supposed to be unified image but it's like that for me. When your art looks like a pillow, it means the shading is casting evenly around the outline of a shape, so everything looks a bit puffy or inflated. It happens when you use too many round lines next to each other, it will end up making your art look like a cartoon cloud if you do that. Ideally you want to have a variety of C, S and lines.
