Only this one could be called Lynchian, it’s very reminiscent of Inland Empire. The rest are just “noir” and there’s really nothing “Lynchian” about them in particular unless David Lynch invented moody night time photography. Do you need me to tell you he didn’t?

Is photography/the arts anti-chud?
I was looking around in my city for a public/community shared darkroom/print space as I don’t have the space to do it at home and found a place that sounds great as far as the facilities go, but the people running it and their whole mission seems to be progressive woke womyn run and focused. Not explicitly, they supposedly “welcome everyone” but like picrel just says it all. I looked around for other options and basically every artists group here is the same, the school of art, open art spaces, even the local “hacker/makerspace” seems to be a tranny daycare. Just maximum virtue signalling buzzwords and labels type of people, and it seems you can’t find just a basic “normal” non-political photography group. What’s up with that? Are we really just outliers on here? Like I’m still tempted cause it’s only 35 bucks a year for 24/7 darkroom access but I’d basically have to do maximum power level hiding at all times. Wonder if it’s worth it. How have you all found other photographers to be? Is this the nature of “creative” pursuits? Were the wokeys right, conservatives can’t into art?

Hey, /p/.

I'm new to this board and I'm looking to buy my first dslr camera. I was wondering if you guys can give a beginner like me some recommendations on what camera to buy. I've heard Canon is the go-to-brand, but I'm not sure what model is the best option.
Camera recommendations that won't make me look like a redditor lesbian would be greatly appreciated.

I've got about $950 to shell out. Thanks.

So, which of the big companies is going to be the first to offer an affordable 100mp camera?

Fuji is obviously already out there, but this thing is Eight thousand dollars. I suspect that when it happens (eventually) it will be Nikon.

Kind of a /fa/ question for /p/
I've been a photography enthusiast ever since I met my girlfriend of 4~ years. I shoot with her all the time and even have gotten her into and excited about the craft. Her and I regularly go on walks, and a couple nights ago and she said something that kind of shot out of left field. We were contemplating what trail we were going to hike (my neighborhood backs up to a large recreational/forest area with many choices) and we had decided upon one and to end the conversation she says, "And maybe you don't bring the big camera this time?" and we both laughed, with my laughter just coming from confusion and a little bit of shock for such a request. I cannot for the life of me figure out why she asked this. I seldom ever shoot with a tripod when going on casual walks with her and it never gets in the way of us having a good time, I take a few pictures every walk and throw it over my shoulder and keep going. I don't let my hobby ever get in the way of our time together. If anything she's asking to shoot with me more often.

That's why for the life of me I can't understand why she asked me to leave the rb67 at home. She loves shooting with me and is always asking questions to learn more about photography and film. I'm really not trying to sperg out about this, I guess im just trying to figure it out from a girl's pov. I can't help but think the reason she asked is purely aesthetic/visual, as if me hauling it around is unattractive or something. Is carrying this camera around on a semi-regular basis that strange or unfashionable? I really don't think its big enough of an issue to explicitly request I don't use it which is why im so confused.

Studying Photography
The worst part of photography school is paying for the fees, but the facilities and tutors are really good where I am. I might drop out after I get what I want out of it. It forced me to learn how to photograph and meter properly, use composition, understand lighting, and edit in post-production—all things that amateurs struggle with because they can’t ask a professional for tips.

In all art disciplines you have both theory and practice. Understanding theory is deeply important, but still the most important part is to actively be out taking pictures.

A technically perfect photograph can still be snapshit, while one that is deeply flawed in execution can be what is ...
With photography you can never really become completely educated, there is always something new to learn. You can be better than 99% of the population at taking photos with very little effort though.

Summer's over, did you get shit done? edition

All video related questions and discussion is intended for this thread. Here we discuss techniques, gear and anything else related to capturing video footage. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door.
Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged.
We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses.
In contrast, consumer camcorders often have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

Quick FAQS
>what’s the best camera available on a “budget”?
The blackmagic pocket cinema camera 4k, or the Panasonic gh5 (can pick one up for like 500 bucks atm)
>what’s a good beginner video camera?
Anything that works, shoots at least 1080p and preferably has interchangeable lenses. Any recommendation beyond that will cause arguments so read the fucking sticky if that isn't satisfactory.
>What's a good sound solution that won't break the bank?
Zoom h1
>Can I use a zoom lens for video?
Yes
>Do I need cine lenses?
No
>Do I need 4k?
No. 1080 looks great on a cinema screen. 4k looks better.
>Can someone tell me if my video is any good?
Yes, but be prepared to receive harsh criticism. If you're going to waste 5 minutes of our time with a shitty out-of-focus montage of nothing then we'll tell you that it's crap
>Is it okay to dox myself?
...Personally I wouldn't but what do I know?

Foveon Full Frame
>We are still continuing sensor development. However, we are still in the "technology development phase" and have not yet begun actual sensor design. We are currently working on pixel architecture design.
>To be honest, the development project is a little behind schedule. This is because each time we prototype wafers and manufacture a prototype sensor, we discover new technical challenges. Since we have never designed a sensor independently before, we are currently learning through trial and error.
>While the Foveon team was previously at the forefront, the project is now primarily led by the engineering team at Sigma's headquarters in Japan. Fortunately, technical issues are gradually decreasing, and we feel that the challenges are gradually being narrowed down. Once we are confident that the sensor is technically feasible, we plan to officially move on to the sensor design phase and begin preparations for mass production.
How confident are you Sigma can make the full-frame Foveon happen, anon? Even if they can get it to market, how likely are you to invest in it?

Zines
How does /p/ feel about zines?

They seem fun. You print your stuff, distribute it however you want, and people look at it. They might toss it in the trash but at least you made an impression.

You can make them for pretty cheap. I made some lo-fi DIY-style ones with my visual art at home using just an inkjet printer, and I've been dropping them in random places for people to find.

Anyone ever make zines?

Theoretically but international postage can be a nuisance.
There is a free zine distributor in Australia that's pretty cool. When you make an order you pay for postage only and they send as much as they can up to that postage cost. Honestly, the amount they send is ridiculous it takes for...
I'm thinking of doing a zine in a postcard format.
Basically have content on both sides of the card, affix a stamp and write the subscribers address in a box.
Has anyone seen something similar? I imagine I'll need to be careful about how I get it printed as it might be much more prone to damage.

Are modern lenses too autistic trying to perform well on a chart?

Hello fellow Simon's Utak enjoyer. Old lenses can give interesting results in terms of colors due to little to no coating, but the flaring can be a bit too much. Weird and different bokeh can be fun though.

Yes. 7 or so elements is plenty. This is the reason modern mirrorless "compact" lenses are so huge btw. The Nikon 1.8 primes are laughably huge.

>don't switch to a new mount in the digital transition so all your customers can still use their old film lenses
>pride yourself for upholding true photographic tradition and having the finest lenses with the most "character"
>release the first full frame camera that can actually make full use of all those "sweet" 35mm pentax lenses in 2016, literally 10 years after the competition
>in the meantime only make shitty APS-C kit zooms
>Release your only monochrome camera for the true affecionados
>It's APS-C
Why is this company such a joke?

They had mirror lock-up on pro bodies since the fucking 60's. Show me a photo that you've taken that could have been better without "mirror slap"
What a joke of a meme.

>>4475454 here I picked up a new lens before my Euro trip, found a Pentax SF-1 with 50mm f1.7 Pentax-F lens for $45 on eBay. I'm too gay to shoot film, mostly bought it for the cheap FF pancake prime when I have zero small primes for my K1ii. Supposedly the 50mm f1....

It is, pair that it also has IBIS and a pixel shift mode that can combine the files in-camera and with a better way to avoid artifacts you have a monster both in-studio and with moving pics outside, 36mp is also quite enough IMO for casual landscape purposes if you don't use the shift mode...

Britain didnt create this "new order" though. It was coming into existence before WW2. America and Russia were always going to become the superpowers eventually - just on sheer manpower and tech. The real failure of WW2 was America not nuking Moscow in 1946.
>>4481455
The wrong side won and the new order fucking sucks. Japan should have destroyed china whole they had the chance and britain, germany and russia should have destroyed each other and been claimed by americans scandis.

What do I need to take pictures like these?
Hello /p/, I want to take photos like picrel but have no experience in photography and no camera, I'm willing to spend up to around €1,000 but would rather cheaper as I am not wealthy, anything in the 400-500 range is a nice amount for me. What camera/specs do I need? Any lenses? I know photography terminology as I've experience with 3dcg and they seem to use the same terms there, as well as a bit of experience in just using the pro mode of my phone camera.

You need a high red camera like the Sony A7CR, paired with a sharp GM lens. If your subject is trees, leaves, or anything green in general, Sony is the natural choice because of their propensity for beautiful green hues in their jpgs.

skill issue
chemistry prices didn't change much
I develop, print and/or scan my film myself saved a shitton of money in the long run
at least if you shoot quite often
