not only did Sega make it but Toshihiro Nagoshi directed it, and it was a dream project for him because he had also worked on Daytona USA, and cites F-Zero on the SNES as the major inspiration for the early '90s arcade racer boom. So working on GX was like completing the cycle of inspiration for hyim,
say what you will about GX as a game, it was made with pure soul and passion and very few other games can claim that.

>sims like ac are arcade because you just pick a car and a track like in daytona usa
daytona usa has modelled damage affecting handling, tire wear, and drafting therefore it is a simulator.
>GT7 is a simulator because you have to spend money on the cars before you can drive them
that was my point
even if the physics are not perfect and you don't have to deal with autistic shit like paying road taxes or refilling washer fluid it is 110% a simulator

it is kinda the pinnacle of what a motorsports sim aspires to be. one may not agree with its pricing model but then look at the "pricing model" of irl racing and it ain't so bad

whiplash is a simulator in so many ways it isn't funny
>you absolutely HAVE to use the pits and think about damage reduction strategy, gamble one more lap you won't run into bob or worse one of the reises
>the japanese auto industry is literally in the process of forming zizin irl
>the cars are hydrogen-based which is why they rev to 60,000 rpm, go 200+ mph and explode violently when you look at them funny
>the ai does an excellent job of simulating sentience
like ok even for '95 it's not really got the fanciest physics or the best graphics but it sure as fuck simulates near-future f1-rallycross death racing to a degree that would be nearly impossible to cram into a new game today
