I don't have much of a technical dog in this fight, I don't program and I just use muh linux desktop. I know very little about desktop internals.
But I will say this xlibre fork has kicked up one of the biggest hornets nests I've ever seen in 15 years of using Linux. Its insane how angry so fucking many people are over the fact that someone forked fucking Xorg.
It looks like there is a big time split coming in Linux, or at least desktop linux. On one side you basically have this maggot filled troon infestation, who all use gnome, systemd, and wayland. What a coincidence that those technologies are now simply becoming more and more inseparable.
On the other side you increasingly have people and distros that have taken more and more of a hardline "no fucking troons" stance, wether its pretty milquetoast shit like "we dont discuss politics here" or "yeah we're nazis, heil hitler nigga".
The troonware side has the advantage of corporate backing. Red Hat, Canonical, etc employ these people and won't fire them even for pedophilia.
The chud side has the advantage of people that aren't wacked out on estrogenic drug cocktails and sissy hypno.
Time will tell what wins, personally I am betting on Artix being a top distro in 5 years, simply because this troon-trend is dying fast and people are REALLY FUCKING SICK OF THIS SHIT and absolutely will ditch software that enables them. Most of the troons in FOSS though are too dense, narcissistic, and checked out to have gotten the memo that they're being flushed.
I just hope the enablers are marked and have to carry that the rest of their lives, they shouldnt be given a free pass when things change.

I agree with this sort of. I think player bases would remain stable if the bottom line of players remained higher. People won't play if they see some shit like 10 players online. But if they saw 1000, I am sure that would keep a nice drip feed of players checking it out. People think games need like 30,000 players concurrently to be "alive". But really it just needs a solid consistent baseline. I am guilty of what you said myself though. I told myself I want to get into quake champions more but I never did because it looks like the game isn't alive. I am guilty.

Oh I've heard this argument before lol. I can't really say I disagree, but I still suck too much to start piping up with takes like that.
I've been in a couple IRL fights and nobody ever bothered with any kind of grips like what is routine shit in gi. Could it happen? Sure. Odds don't seem too good though.
My main concern is being able to get offense going in a grappling sport. With my 2x a year 6 weeks off schedule, my offense disappears into the shadow realm by the time I am back and I have to start from scratch. I get compliments from higher belts on top pressure, getting underhooks in, athleticism and constant movement, but my grips are trash, grip breaking is trash and my offensive gameplan consists mostly of "????????" and "idk lol".
It seems like a "simplified" but more realistic, more athletic, less grips based system would really help. Not totally solve the problem, but minimize it a lot at least.
tl;dr I want to get to the point where I can just straight up agree with you, fuck the gi.
