I like low brow stuff plenty, pic related. Also like high brow stuff too - but both have to match my taste and the high brow stuff can't go for low hanging fruit constantly or be too untrusting to the audience to get the point.
I don't like it when shows like this pretend to be brilliant and have something interesting to say when they don't and it's because of a failed execution, not a failed premise. A show with the same premise of a creature learning about the darkness of humanity but still being able to come to terms with the good in them has a lot of potential and can be told in many interesting ways. Just not really in the way this series is telling it.
Basically, I don't like this show because it is low brow pretending to be high brow and executing it poorly, not because I hate low brow in general. I just like it when a show is genuine and it seems like the author wanted to shock people rather than just tell a story. I can practically feel the author reaching out to me trying to whisper in my ear "isn't this all just so fucked up" instead of letting me come to my own conclusions.
