Asgore dying would be the most thematically appropriate. The one adult who cares about Kris and knows something is going on behind the scenes dies. Leaving Kris even more alone, while Noelle loses another loved one. Toriel would absolutely be destroyed too. Even if she divorced Asgore and wants to be separate from him, the death of the father of her children would hit hard. Toriel would probably start drinking even harder, not the fun drinking, but drinking yourself into oblivion so you forget.

It's also theorized that Rudy will die in Chapter 5 from his sickness. So both him and his best friend Asgore dying would shatter any will that Carol or Toriel had left. Two dads dying in one night.
