Like other anons mentioned the main guy behind Idolm@ster helped make Umamusume what it is today. I would highly recommend watching Umamusume Pretty Derby S1 and go through the series. It's not required, but it will absolutely enhance your enjoyment of the game immensely. This is the closest we will ever get to Idolm@ster coming West.
