Maoris are actually gigachud Christians more often than white people. They're the ones that go out protesting with Christian flags against the homos. The few that go into Maori Polytheism are just doing it for the affirmative action cultural gibs, I get the vibes they don't really believe in it.
Polynesians in places like Fiji are actually deeply ashamed of their polytheistic past, and fearmonger about it's return. Maori and Fijian polytheism was heavily cannibalistic (something that's suppressed in the culture), so there's a bit of shame there that prevents them from returning to it. The Fijians in Fiji will be honest about that shame, Maoris won't.
>Anyways, still sad ethnic groups outside of Europe are still losing a part of their cultural identity.
We've always had Greek myths as part of our canon, even Reformed Christians like Milton that were borderline iconoclastic, utilized the Greco-Roman canon for his poetry. And we have classical studies at school where we learn about them, so it's not like they're "lost" by any sense of the word.
We haven't been pagan for like 1,000 years.
