>she wasn't dying
lmao. They've spent longer in other canvases that weren't as dangerous to them. Renoir explains that this same addiction happened to him and Aline had to force him out to save his life. Similarly, this canvas is uniquely dangerous to Aline (and Alicia) because Verso JUST died and they can use it to feel like he's still alive. One of the few explicit facts of the game is that Aline is losing herself to the canvas and it's killing her.

I'm not saying there's no reason for the Lumierens to exist, I'm saying it was highly irresponsible for Aline to create life in such a precarious position. If it's such a gift, you should be arguing that the painters have a responsibility to create as many canvases populated with as many people as possible.

>only after that failed
And why again did that fail? Oh, because he chose to flee and help Alicia rather than stay and die. What odd behavior for someone concerned only with bringing about his own death.

>she literally drags him away
Yeah he's an immortal badass who, as the ending shows, is at the very least capable of overpowering her in a fight, but he has zero agency when it comes to leaving with her. Play the game nigger, he moves his own feet.

Renoir isn't going to let Alicia die in the canvas anymore than he was going to let Aline die in there. He's going to pull her out eventually. The only path that could've led to the canvas's preservation was Alicia leaving willingly, but she fucked that up.

Alicia admits that she lied to Renoir in that very cutscene, which you'd know if you'd played the game.
