There were also reports of women voluntarily submitting themselves to protect their families, younger peers, or others in their communities. After Japan’s defeat in 1945, leaders of the Kurokawa Settler Group in Manchuria offered approximately 15 young women, aged 17 to 21, to Soviet soldiers in exchange for protection. This tragic practice continued from September to November 1945, with some of the women later being offered to Chinese soldiers as well.
