I play it. If you're completely inexperienced with platform fighters, I'd recommend watching https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVfcbE0lvh6V53dsUhuwXYPTsxboVFzqF to understand concepts like neutral, advantage, disadvantage, and advanced movement that aren't necessarily intuitive.

I'd recommend queuing ranked until you begin being matched with bronze, silver, and gold players. Even though you're "unranked", your MMR does go down. While casual has hidden MMR, it's much more lenient than ranked. I've matched with aetherian players and even Plup as a diamond player. Playing arcade or against CPUs is also an easy way to learn the basics of movement and characters' mechanics.
If you really want advice improving, I could add you on Steam and play sometime. But I'm just watching Top 8 right now.

I ended up on the Steam forum for this game while trying to determine whether it works with family sharing and Jesus Christ is that place ground zero for seething, filtered retards.
