People connecting FRIEND to the pointed tail stuff seems like a huge leap honestly. Just cause it's a cat, they all assume it is the tail now.

Friend appears as just a face popping up on stuff. It popped up on cats a lot in Chapter 3, but it shows up by itself just as much in 2 and 4. It's a face in the dark, a thing without set physical form like the other Darkners.

I think Friend is Dess' coping mechanism. She was lost in the Dark alone for so long, she started making up faces. That's what FRIEND is, Dess' imaginary friend and only personal ally in the Dark.
I also think ERAM is Dess, so it summoning a bunch of FRIENDS makes perfect sense there.

I have a new schizo theory (well, more an expansion of a more normal theory into schizo territory).

Many assume that The Vessel was meant to be the original "Hero 1, The Cage with Human Soul and Parts".
And that Noelle was supposed to be the original "Hero 2, The Girl with Hope Crossed in her Heart."
But what if we keep going?
"Hero 3, The Prince, Alone in Deepest Dark" could also have been replaced. Ralsei doesn't fit in with The Vessel and Noelle since he's so tied to Kris. But you know who would fit in and is "alone in deepest dark"? Dess. And she's a tomboy that could fit as a "female Prince" type like Revolutionary Girl Utena.
But if Dess is Hero 3, who is the Knight? "The Knight, which makes with blackened knife, shall duel the heroes strife by strife". Well, who is left who also takes the form of a knight in the Dark Worlds already, and has an affinity for knives? KRIS. Kris was the one that was supposed to fight Noelle and Dess on the adventure.
But then the conspiracy comes in. Somehow the roles have been shuffled and Susie and Ralsei added to remove Noelle and the Vessel from the prophecy.
