I honestly really like what they did with Susie and how she grew in chapter 3 and 4. they seemed to be her chapters if anything.
its so incredibly easy to fuck up the "bully turned friend" trope that from my memory Susie might be the only time it was done in a way that i care about, or at least believable way. most of the time its either 1)"im mean for 5 minutes but after a single talk we are best friends forever and im now a normal dude" or the other way of 2)"im an asshole bully forever but for some reason i also go along with you fucks", no middle ground.

Susie had growth, she found friends, a mentor and a love interest all in the span of just the first half the story. i like how she acts in ch3+4 too. shes the the brash, abrasive girl but she clearly found deep care and trust for her new friends and in general she is trying to evolve past the edgy punching girl. i like that she acts around Kris like a loyal dude homie friend.

i will not lie i did have my doubts with her character during chapter 1 and 2. that she might have her little moments but ultimately she'll just be a stereotype of the second example i gave.
but now she is genuinely my favorite character.

I think Ive come up with the worst post ch3+4 theory.
Asgore, Carol, and Rudy are the original prophetic heroes. Rudy is a darkner prince like Ralsei that they wished into the Light World, but he's dying because of it. The roaring is the only way he can survive. Oh and Noelle can be mindbroken because she's half Darkner.

My theory is that Kris is working with the Knight because it's Dess, and Dess somehow was trapped in the dark world in Knight form protecting Kris from some fuck up they did all those years ago. Kris was so depressed before the start of the game they finally decided their life was worthless and not more valuable than Dess, and Kris' actions have been about somehow allowing Dess to come back to the light world by trading places with her. The Dess disappearance case also probably got Asgore fired from the police and caused his marriage to fail making Kris feel even guiltier.

But then Susie got mixed in, they hit it off, and now Kris finally has some happiness in their life and Hometown no longer feels like a prison and protecting Susie actually feels like they're already somewhat making up for failing Dess all those years ago. And now going ahead with the plan feels bad, because it means betraying Susie and Ralsei and also throwing away their recently happier life, but Kris already promised Karol and pulling out of the plan now feels like giving up on and betraying Dess.

I think fractured/possessed/imposter Dess started grooming Kris immediately after Asriel went to college. And basically, Kris got schizopilled on the prophecy, and has been convinced by DessKnight to do anything Kris can to stop Noelle from being the girl who dies in the prophecy.
To effect this, Kris cleared the chalk from the classroom and stayed in bed late so Monster Teen wouldn't have a chance to partner with Kris. Basically, Kris made sure it'd be Kris & Susie who went to the dark world together.
Susie is planned to take the fall for Noelle, but Kris accidentally realized Susie is a great match for them, and now their life is even worse since they're split between saving Susie and Noelle.
The big problem with my theory is, why did the Knight open a dark world in the library? If they hid in the closet like they apparently are in ch4, then they knew Noelle came in there. So protecting her from the dark world makes less sense. Not sure how to square this.

My theory (further theorizing) is that Gaster is inside the shelter, experimenting on dark worlds. Dess and Kris intruded into his lab while playing around and that's how they accidentally entered a dark world. Gaster is the reason Dess isn't completely dead, he used his knowledge as best he could to keep her alive even if it was only as the Knight and has been looking for a way to bring her back. He knew for a long time he could probably do it by having someone trade places, but didn't want to sentence anyone to that.

Until Kris returned years later, and explained their life is absolutely miserable and the guilt and sadness they've been feeling since then and the breaking down of all relationships in their life has made them full on suicidal. Gaster finally accepts after Kris threatens to actually end it all either way. But this method of trading places involves creating more dark fountains to broaden the connection between the dark and light worlds.

the way I see it

Kris, being Kris, doesn't tell anyone, Noelle was too traumatized, and Asgore, not wishing to throw Kris under the bus and not fully understanding it, tries to convince everyone it was a supernatural event and it causes his life to fall apart.

I am still 50-50 on whether it's Carol or Dess being the Knight, but I'm certain at least the reason why Kris keeps sealing fountains is so that his soul becomes strong enough (combined with sacrifices) to resurrect Dess/make her whole.

The eggs are explicitly "not too important," so I don't think they're linked to main storyline tier stuff like what happened to Dess. Seems more likely to be something that happened to Kris pre-adoption, so not unimportant for their character development, but extraneous to the main plot.

Here is the truth: Kris is canonically non-binary as a consequence of accommodating to the player's sex.
Toby wanted a character that the player could project themselves onto, but also be it's own character, and being non-binary was the best option for that.
Due to that, Kris is also the "I don't really care about whether I'm a boy or a girl, so I'm non-binary I guess" kind of non-binary rather than "I will have a mental breakdown if anyone thinks of me as a boy or girl" kind. His gender will never be brought up outside of how characters refer to him. It's supposed as least obstructive as possible.
As for sex, that's undisclosed and irrelevant. Just like how Toby didn't decide the specific age of characters, he didn't decide Kris's sex. Since it's irrelevant to the story, there was no need to decide it.
