I think it's a mix of both honestly. My brother has autism like this. We grew up with the same circumstances, watched the same shows and played the same video games (especially Beavis and Butthead/Adult Swim, and GTA: San Andreas/Halo) and he acts just like that with the weird speech, hand gestures, and overall awkwardness. My parents had him at 35 and me at 37 so I think that's a big factor. He's just a big child with intellectual disabilities, such as not being able to understand complex ideas or math. I'm a CPA and he pushes shopping carts still, but he's happy and that's all I care about.
