give me one good reason this game shouldn't be considered "open world"
This game almost never got brought to the west and was dying a whimpering death in the superior more intelligent Japanese market.

This was the worst thing to happen to gaming. Gaymers are retarded they should be told what and what not to play. They cannot think for themselves.

Not dogshit, but really overrated
Only reason this is a staple of current gen is it being pretty difficult
In 80s and early 90s all games were programmed to be very cryptic and very challenging to prolong play time and also rent shops and gaming magazines with walkthroughs needed business. Then as market spread and children became more spoiled, they coded the games to be more forgiving.
If most games on market were still very difficult, this series would be nothing special. Just another hack and slash.
What are the best Soulslikes that capture the focus on patience and exploration in DS1?
These games are only fun when you can blast through everything with ease with a broken build
Why is this praised as a masterpiece? Half of the locations are unfinished and most bosses are nothing special or gimmick fights.
>Ruins action game combat design for the next decade and a half
How retarded do you have to be to enjoy this genre

>durrr roll and mash one button

"Dark Souls prepares you for life"
>You lose all your money when you fail
>You lose all your consumables when you fail
>You are all alone
>Attacks are telegraphed counter-intuitively
>You aren't told anything

If you're that alone, unstable, unlikable, and retarded for this to be your life; playing more Dark Souls isn't gonna help.
What are some 3D games that did a Souls type interconnected world before the Souls games? All I can think of is Vagrant Story.

The obvious one. I was one of those "it's just bullshit on purpose?" retards. Turns out there's always a strategy to a given encounter, even if it takes a bit of trial and error to figure it out.
