Being free as the wind is a mental thing, not a physical thing. Cream is free. She does what she loves, she likes being a good girl and being responsible and adventuing and helping people, she's living true to herself. Shes shown to be more than capable of disregarding rules or orders in order to do what she wants to or what she feels she has to. She also doesn't like being ordered around, especially if her capabilities or maturity comes into question, she doesn't like being treated as a child, basically. Just because it's easy to restrict her (she's six, keep in mind) doesn't mean her soul is restricted.
That's basically my point, she has a free spirit.

they just dropped the ball on this one.

1 is a Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure reimagining.
2 is a Sonic Rush prequel.
3 is like a Knuckles' Chaotix sequel disguised as a Sonic Battle sequel.
I think most people agree the second is the lesser of the three since it's prototypical boost, but they're three fairly different games!

Cream could've been poised to replace Tails as the wide-eyed little-kid Sonic-fan for a new generation since they were having Tails grow up and become more independent at that time, but it didn't last.

I wonder if we are ever gonna get a new character that stays around and is part of the main group.
When I say main group, I mean the characters that were in stuff like Sonic heroes, generations, the april fools VN or being part of the cast of Mario and Sonic in the Olympics games. I think the last ones were Blaze and Silver if I remember correctly.
