But the moment viewers do any kind digging? The moment he has to go in depth about his actual experience, or says something off-kilter, then doesn't react well to how its taken. That personable facade as a dependable source of opinion starts to crack.
It was almost inevitable that he would slip up.
He just took aim at the wrong (re: very publicized) fuel to compound his own powder keg with. How he choose to respond to the resulting trash fire hasn't helped.
He tried to handwave it away, in his mind. But to the world, it came off as passive aggressive, —doubling down— on a bad hot-take.
