Man it was unbearable fan-ficy tier shit. I fucking love Yuki but this show(along with its original source material) didnt take the subject matter of seriously and just treated it as a slice of life comedy. I know Haruhi was mostly laughs too but there was a lot of drama/melodrama mixed in their so it wasnt all "Uh oh Yuki is being a shy retard again" , it became annoying. Like even though this is fanfic tier subject matter already, it should have tackled more of the initial incident that led to creating this AU. Have this Yuki have of an internal conflict of this world like what was teased in the Amnesia arc, or have it so that this AU starts already with Haruhi as part of the gang like where Kyon left them in Disappearance so we can see how conflicts in the original novel would be done when everyone is just ordinary. Fuck it get the actual aliens involved to try to intervene with the existence of this AU. Again I know what Im throwing out is fan-fic shit but this spin off is already fan fic shit so why not throw in some fucking drama.
The real sin though is how they nerfed Yuki's shyness, in the movie it was almost crippling but she slowly warmed up, having a season of that would have at least made the romance part more engaging but we start the show months past that character development so we dont get to see her blossom in a more dramatic and thoughtful way, its from the get go basic shy girl hijinks
Tsuruya was hot at least, the one design that was at least on par with the Kyoani shit even though the colors in this show are washed out
