It doesn't matter how much effort dev puts into "evil path", it will NEVER, EVER be played by 99% of playerbase, even on multiple repeating playthroughs. Everyone playing rpgs, save for very few autistic nerds, self inserts by playing good male human warrior and picking options which are "right" instead of roleplaying. Both Mass Effect and Kotor have equally nice "evil" paths and yet nobody picks them. Actually, Mass Effect Renegade has identical quality and is just slightly more rude and it's enough to make it worthless for a vast majority of playerbase. Let alone outright evil lol. Quality of "evil playthrough" is completely inconsequential to it's pick ratio. You could have a game where "evil playthrough" is objectively better designed and still nobody would choose it.
btw, this is why le tough moral choices meme is a popular thing to put into c/arpgs. Even though it's utterly retarded from roleplaying perspective. It relies on playing on Player's emotions and conscience which in properly designed crpg shouldn't be a factor. You are NOT the character you play as, you take on another completely different role. Chud should be able to roleplay as a commie in game, Liberal should be able to roleplay as an unironic nazi, Religious person should be able to roleplay as an atheist/demon worshiper etc. And not simply pick options they would pick if they ended up in game
So the question should never be
>what is the right, the best option to pick in a particular quest?
it should be
>which option fits the best character I'm playing as right now?
Thus making le tough moral choices dilemma null. But 99% people play cRPGs wrong by self inserting and not roleplaying. Which is why they will never, ever play "evil playthroughs" either, no matter their quality.
