i haven't touched the IDW stuff but I wonder if the reason the comic is so ass is because of the poor writting or because the heavy restriction SEGA puts on them. Maybe is both. Regardless I am glad I never was invested on it and I only care about how the new official ocs look, mostly Surge and that's it.
