Look up the connection between vitamin D3 deficiency and inflammation. There are studies on vitamin D3 and asthma IIRC.
Anything inflammation related should get you to think about your D3 levels because it's needed by the immune system to function properly.
Most westerners just about reach a level in the blood that prevents rickets but are far from ideal and many are deficient in D3. It's not surprising, most westerners spend most of their days indoors and don't get direct sunlight exposure and the factory farmed animals are deplete of D3 too because they don't get much sun exposure either so one of our main sources of D3 through diet is severely diminished.
Ideal levels of D3 in the blood is around 40-60 ng/ml and it takes months of supplementation to get there because the conversion takes time and you don't want to overshoot.
