She stared at the plate in front of her—small, green spheres glistening under the dim kitchen light. The brussels sprouts smelled of punishment, of control, of everything she had tried to escape.

With trembling hands, she lifted one to her lips. The bitterness seeped into her mouth like regret, crawling down her throat as if it knew the weight of what she'd done. He sat across the table, watching. Always watching. His gaze bore into her like an unrelenting storm, waiting for her to swallow.

She forced another bite, the texture turning to paste, clogging her senses. The room seemed smaller now, shrinking as the clock ticked. She chewed slower. She swallowed harder.

And yet, no matter how much she ate, the sprouts never disappeared. The plate refilled endlessly.
