I think an MMORPG's story and single player experience should be almost number 1 priority if companies want to make the next big MMORPG. Nobody wants to play a shitty game for 100 hours only to get into the repetitive end game grind, and sandbox MMORPGs feel lazy and always fucking die because community led content always suck.

Make the game good from the first hour, make a compelling story, world, and characters, that is the only thing that will keep casuals playing your game, and maybe when they reach the end they will just stay for the grind. Right now it feels like MMORPGs are for people that just want to waste time doing repetitive tasks or ERPing.

I remember that Ghostcrawler specifically said that if you wanted to play an MMORPG as a single player game that the new Riot games MMORPG was not going to be for you, at that point I already knew the game was going to flop. Thankfully they got rid of the boomer just wanting to make a wow clone with a lol skin and are remaking the project.
