Deeply tempted to do a small Clans Pestilens for 1st ed AoS. Not only do they look fun and have a mix of cool and SOVL af models, but they can be brought as part of my Maggotkin army back in 1st without even needing to ally them in.

I played my 4th and 5th games of spearhead the other day. my maggotkin and IJ vs another guy's slaanesh.


I tried the trick where you plant the blightkings on the mid obj and give your units contesting ita 4+ ward with your general's enhancement.

Unfortunately he rushed onto the point with his slaangors and seeker cav and I lost my ward on turn 2. also because I spent the first turn walking onto the point and desecrating it, I didn't get to fight with anybody and farm disease points with my blightking's 20 attacks, then his slaangors and seekers and archers took out 2 of my blightkings. He won by like 5 points by the end of it, but my poxwalkers were useful than I though they'd be with their mortal wounds and my general's ability to double their attacks. I also killed 2 of his seekers with 7 disease points which was pretty funny.

The second game I played Ironjawz and it was a slugfest. he all in'd my megaboos but I had 2 cards that made all shooting only hit im on a 6+ and give him a +5 ward. then I had another card to heal him D6 later on. The megaboss absolutely cleaves through his guys with their paper thin saves and health. my ardboyz went around the flank to take side points, the other 5 died in the middle after helping my ragerz kill 3 of his seekers. the other 2 had to retreat but my other ardboyz were close by.

The slaanesh spearhead is super fast and the temptation dice can be really swingy. Granted you can not take them, but because I had to hold on until turn 3 for my brutes and I didn't to lose my megaboss, he got to 18 depravity on turn 2's end. the slaangor (that get to reinforce) got run and charge and crit mortals, and the 10 archers that also get reinforcements turned into a threat. thankfully I won by 1 point thanks to a card I had. I got pretty lucky that game but it was fun.

Root Kings were basically regular Dispossessed with Ironwood.
Gotrek and Grombrindal stories have real Ghyran Dwarfs with green beards, tattoos and such but that's entirely different.

Mosscairn is a place in Ghyran. While "Mosscairn" does sound like the name of an Underworlds season, like Dreadfane or Embergard, GW didn't bother to trademark any of those names. GW mostly trademarks bigger stuff, like the names of armies or the titles of games.

So people are speculating that it's going to be a new game. The fact that Warcry seems to have been wound down, and that the game is named after a specific place, has people thinking it might be a Necromunda-style narrative game.

They're in a pretty good place honestly and not really lacking any one major thing besides a proper, dedicated ranged unit beyond the Lord of Blights and Plague Drones etc but a powerful ranged unit/artillery just wouldn't fit Nurgle imo.

Plastic Epidemius and Festus, always wanted those models but loathe Finecast.
Plastic Plague Toads, loved 'em since I first saw them.
Perhaps a Pestigor unit but they'd probably compete with Blightking in terms of game role.
A proper cavalry unit to ride into battle alongside the Harbinger of Decay, I love both my fly units but rotting plague knights on decayed horses would be fucking awesome to have.

I have yet to play a 2k game but I've painted a lot of their units.

I think mortals or plaguebearers on plague toads would be cool. the only cavalry we have are the fly riders (both daemon and mortal) but the mortals ones are kind of expensive in points. Something cheaper would be cool. They could have a rule where they can hop over terrain and belly flop onto enemies like squig hoppers. maybe a belch/vomit ranged attack or something that lets them just gobble up a low-wound model.

Pestigors would also be cool as something between plaguebearer chaff and the elite blightkings. but I'm not sure what role they'd serve since plaguebearers are already the weak foot sloggers and it would really homogonize the army by making them more like the other chaos gods' armies.

other than that maybe a foot priest since we only have one and Scourge of ghyran has an enhancement to turn a hero into a priest or give an existing priest (that being your harbinger of decay) a buff to prayer rolls. Plague ogors or trolls would be the coolest thing but probably never going to happen until 2030 when they're out of ideas and need to include something with the battletome release.

I think the range is pretty good and robust at the moment.

I DO wish every chaos god army could take generic chaos warriors with the God's mark and keyword. I want a block of 10-20 chaos warriors in green armor that haven't graduated to blightking-status yet. Not sure why this isn't allowed when it's very lore-friendly and easy souping.

So I found a box of baleful realmgates for 50 bucks. Any ideas on how I could get it look more dark portaly? I already have some leftover bits from the Witchfate Tor for the robed guys holding swords so I just need to saw the front pillar down... it's excellent. you get your only priest in the entire range, which was always sold out (online only btw) until recently.

the flies make up a lot of points and are strong with a good battle formation that lets them redeploy once a battle. they're good for crashing into backlines and snagging open objectives. Build one of them as a Lord of afflictions for more points, and what's cool is that they come with 4 diferent heads, bodies and scythes that you can really customize them. you can even swap parts with the blightkings which are also an awesome kit and a nurgle staple unit.

I don't know much about the Rotmire creed's viability but they are one of the few units capable of shooting, and they have a neat rule that lets you disease units they shot at. I'm painting mine up right now and be warned that they're not easy, even though they're very cool sculpts. you can try selling them or trading them but honestly they're a cool unit that compliments the rest of the box thematically

As for the vanguard, it might be better to skip it. 6 flies seem like overkill to me but another anon could school you better. The extra blightkings are great and so are the poxwalkers but I think it ends there. the scrivener hero needs PBearers to work and the Xmas box is all mortals. The bilepiper is a better choice since it can target ANY daemon instead of pbearers like the scrivener.

If you skip the vanguard, you can get a GUO (or print one), Glottkin, more blightkings and a foot hero like a lord of blights, or a maggoth rider. Rotigus is also very, very strong right now. One pro of the vanguard box is that it's legal in spearhead. are you leaning more to mortals or daemons? there is a generic formation that buffs your disease point damage and another one that causes your mortals to explode on death and deal more mortal wounds

A range riddled with special rules to make up for being a micro faction. Not really a compelling point. It’s an attempt at an equal attention cake for newer players, which is fine, don’t get me wrong. You can’t really pretend like it’s an entire actual army, maybe in the future it can make up to a new release like hellsmiths in terms of having a range.
Either way it can still try and attract newer players while still retaining its core identity of selling its venerable models, while attracting new players with a small churn of new models for a range like Cathay and soon to be Kislev. It’s likely why wood elves didn’t get a model, because the metals were much more wanted compared to some other factions. Only thing I can think of that’s more wanted are some scattershot of chaos metals.

Both depend entirely on your preferences anon, although I will say that when it comes to painting seraphon for example are an absolute joy to paint. Everything being covered in scales makes it so they take paint really well, and you can go pretty crazy with blending or highlighting if you really want, but you don't have to to make em look good. Stormcast are fun too, they're quite literally designed to be easy and fun to paint up.

But my ghouls are the Ivory Throne, remnants of a city in Shyish with a gate to Ghur. They have been gradually going mad due to lack of supply lines and the curse hitting the people. One of the lords of the city eventually went mad with delusions of the old world. One of which sees himself as a human king and even stormcast eternals see him wielding Ghal Maraz. (Realistically I just wanted a joke about "Ghoul Maraz" and my friend had bits from celestant prime)

The city itself had a standard of white and gold, the ghouls wear flensed worn down pale flesh because it's the closest they can pull off.

Its a disciple of tzeentch warband that has deemed that denizens of the mortal realms no longer have the right to wield the knowledge of fire.They hope to one day hold enough influence, or acquire the means of executing their plan of making their goal a reality, they only really hold small pockets in a number of realms and are banned from 2 ( being azyr, and ulgu). Chamon and ghyran are both the major operating areas for them. Chamon is important because they're looking for what once held the first flame, for Ghyran, a sorcerer who has knowledge of the flame, is perpetually stuck in a cycle with a exalted lord of change of change, sometimes the lord of change catches the sorcerer, and tortures him by wearing his innards around his neck, occasionally consuming them. Other times, the sorcerer catches himself free, granting inhabitants of ghyran powerful artifacts that spew flame, which leaves them in the titan of the sorcerer in his debt, sometimes being what frees him from the lord of changes torment.
Not really an active dude thats part of the warband, but the sorcerer, Metheus, is someone who I enjoyed putting the most thought into, so I guess he's my favorite dude.

I've played a couple of spearheads now with my S2D, and I feel like I'm missing something. Am I really just the menacing doom machine who tanks my opponent's alpha strike with my 3+ save and kills them on the clapback? Other than my knights, I'm more or less only ever getting to the midboard at best. I've taken the Fights First a few times and the free roll on the buffs but Im starting to feel like the +1 OC for warriors is kind of insane since it means my opponent is basically never taking my home from me. Fights First seems to be a goofy ass choice for the Lord since he just acts as a rattlesnake effect and makes my opponent eevond guess any charge close to him.

it's weird, before i got into wargames i was big into TTRPGs, forever DM, homebrewed settings, factions, lore, characters, you name it. for some reason i've never been able to commit to /mydudes/ in wargames. only have vague ideas of names and color schemes, but no real lore or identities. maybe it's because i struggle to create characters in an established setting? i feel stifled. also sucks having /mydudes/ get stomped by /yourdudes/, i think.

What are they priced at ? Skaventide is a much better deal ASSUMiNG you can sell off the half you don't want for a sort of reasonable price. Skaventide also lets you play both armies out of the box in spearhead, while for cities you would need to get the warcry dudes or something to make it playable there. Cities are also in general pretty expensive to collect, skaven are a bit better and stormies are dirt cheap if you're willing go buy secondhand, but even brand new they're a very affordable army due to being fairly elite. Still if you look CoS minis more, just go for cities. Nothing more expensive than an army you don't actually want.

Tldr : skaventide, all else being equal.

I love Warcry. The card system makes games all feel unique and adds some narrative to one off games. It can make the game super unbalanced, but it's really fun.

Played my first game of spearhead last night. Had a great time with my buddy who was kind enough to show me the roped of spearhead and aos in general, and my word what a great gamemode this is. It genuinely saddens me that combat patrol for 40k was so bad when this is so good.
Despite us stopping constantly to explain rules or talk with another storegoer about something 40k related (we're both votann players so we talked a lot about the new yield points) the game only took around 2 hours.
We were neck and neck the whole time with my KO pulling ahead at the end thanks to the frigate being such a hard model for the rats to deal with. Probably too big a model for the gamemode, so I can see why the new spearhead had the gunhauler instead.

Picrel was the highlight of the game for me. I had my frigate transport my admiral over to his rat leader and use my once-per-game ability to charge after being transported, but his clanrats used a counter charge and stopped my admiral from getting the chance. He proceeded to wipe out the clanrats afterwards, but it saved his leader from being hammered this turn.

Yeah that's me, I needed to get the frig done specifically for this game because I hate when I field unpainted models. And thanks man, one of my favorite things about the KO is imagining these gigantic airships looming over the battlefield.

As for CP, there's a few factors leading to why it's so hated in 40k. First, is the balance. I played 1 game of the old Ork CP vs the old admech CP and at no point did it seem like a close game. The Orks got the objectives turn 1 and couldn't be shifted at all. Next, there's nothing like the reinforcements in spearhead so once something is gone its gone, and boy oh boy is it still so easy to wipe out units in a single fight phase or shooting phase. Your 10 Ork boys are still getting around 40 attacks during their WAAAGH turn and 30 attacks otherwise. And these attacks will absolutely mulch most infantry they get ahold of since wounding is based on STR/T and the STR of Boyz is pretty decent. This is to say that the problem of how lethal 40k is is way worse in CP thanks to the smaller sized board and not smaller sized datasheet lethality, gun range, and number of attacks.
This could've been my own problem, but another thing spearhead has going for it is the mission packs themselves. The idea to replace stratagems (idk the name for it in aos) with the cards you draw to either do a cool thing or score points is a fantastic idea and isn't present in CP.
There's probably a lot more, that's just my thoughts.

Yes, I WILL be painting every part though most of it won't be getting any highlights. Just a light wash. It's the type of kit where the sculpts has lots of "landmines" where you need to navigate your brush over or around a different item on the model. Like a rope or trinket being there just to interrupt your painting of the belt. the light bone and bamboo colors are also a bitch to repaint over dark colors that may have spilled over.

What do you mean? Did you fail the charge and then he used counter charge into the admiral? Because if he declared counter charge after you declared your charge but before your roll, he played it wrong. It plays like it does in the normal game where you get to declare and use all your abilities before he does unless the timing on an ability says it’s a reaction. So he could’ve used counter charge to get behind your admiral after he charged, but not body block him outright. Glad you had fun, though.

I actually really like them. They're former healers and scientists turned nurgle cultists who worship him via science and pathology. They got exiled from sigmarite settlements for their experiments. you rarely see mortals going through the early stages of mutation in Nurgle. it's either a 3 eyed fatass with tentacles popping out his armpits and a rusty blade or a metling pile of slime if they're daemons with teeth and eyes for the daemons. You can see the boils forming on their legs and skin starting to peel off.

I also don't think I've ever seen bamboo on any AoS models other than these guys. their weapons, armor, and stilts are all very low-tech and they have almost no metal on them. idk they're just very different but I like that. Maybe mid tier? Worst elite infantry to me is Mortek guard, best is chosen. I would put warriors, questor soulsworn, saurus guard, ahead of barrowguard. The healing is less of a deal than 3e, if something wants to lift your barrowguard and they're monstrous infantry/heavy cav, they're going to do it in a turn, or atleast hit you hard enough you're not going to turn that trade in a grind. Recursion doesn't really matter when you bring back only 10, they need a hero nearby to get full value, and they move 4".

You can build up to 2k with not too much needed, deathrattle stuff is expensive, even more than OBR somehow. The list won't be good, competitive or even interesting but I guess it might be good for a laugh. Skeleton horde is a bit of a stretch since deathrattle are capped at 20.

Deathrattle are more like throwaway units right now, with Barrowknights used to hold things up for a turn or two, and skeletons as cheap bodies to hold objectives. They are not really a "grind you down" type army.

I think think the app exclusive skill and treasure cards were never posted on the wiki, nor the Branchwytch. I had to get those elsewhere. The hero cards all had physical equivalents, I'm just curious if the images were sourced from the app since there have been errata of some cards through white dwarf and the faq. There are even some physical cards which were never posted on the wiki, so I wonder if it was from the compiler not buying those characters in app.

Yeah since it happened during COVID china pumped up the prices on cardboard and shipping shit was fucked so they dropped the ball. I don't work for GW so I have no clue personally but I imagine that lead to them just kinda dropping the expansions and all support because they didn't figure they could put everything out at once.

So we got the expansions super delayed, they couldn't make new prints of the base game until years later, and the expansions didn't have any minis because they just released those separately probably to make up for losses.

Alright listen up /aosg/ I just woke up from a nap where the next aos faction was revealed to me in a dream.

In a nutshell it was a destruction faction made up of basically the realms themselves getting tired of all the shit happening on the surface, buckling under all the strain of centuries-long 24/7 warfare. Chunks of various minerals started being born out of the ground, forming sort of golems of crystals and rocks and shit. Kind of a mix between picrel and regirock, though about kroxigor-sized. Their goal was very simple, to get everyone else off their lawn and back to whatever part of the universe they come from. Only the sylvaneth were chill but even then on thin ice.

There was a sort of hierarchy between golems, with those made up of the minerals that require the most pressure and temperature, and therefore deepest depths, at the top of the society. In my dream I remember this as olivine although I have no idea if this is geologically accurate. What mineral they were made up their role in the army, obsidian golems were assassins etc. Golems formed around realmstones were wizards.
There was a really cool shyish subfactions, where the remains of all kinds of dead golems clumped together (sedimentary rock basically) became sentient again. Zombie rocks essentially, was pretty cool.
