None of them, you were chosen by the old gods. They took advantage of the fact that there's technically a seventh auspice and that the current six are busted to fuck with the system. Technically you can kinda 'become' the 0th auspice if you pick Yazata though, since you pilot it.

In general the adventure will take long.
The difference is that when I say potential I mean she can grow more in a conventional way.
Basically leveling up DnD style.
While the broken ability gives her an alternative to the regular power system.
Vs her becoming stronger by an uncoventiaonal mean.

Both would keep up with you

I guess what I meant to say is how do you get a sweetspot? Temporary drawbacks that can be overcome rather than permanent "debuffs"?
Anonymous No.96312721
>>96312681
Options no one will take are not necessarily a bad thing. If you build on that assumption (and so don't balance it around assuming players will have X extra points from them) you can use them as a way of introducing concepts within your setting organically. The player might not want to chimp out, but it's a way to demonstrating that other characters with the same type of powers that they might encounter have the potential to do so.
Anonymous No.96312729
>>96312681
The best drawbacks are the ones that are directly tied to perks and have a lore explanation for why they happen. If you want people to pick crippling drawbacks just say that they're removable with enough time and effort (but don't specify how), Anons are overconfident and stupid so they'll pick them thinking that they'll live long enough to get rid of them.
Anonymous No.96312737
>>96312714
Good question. It's probably fine to have it be able to be outright removed with some effort, but finding the right degree of difficulty is going to be vary a lot. Maybe evaluating it based on the opportunities you might lose out on and the risks it poses?

Any drawback that is temporary might as well read "free points" because people will build around overcoming their temporary drawbacks first and then doing whatever else they want to do with their now very overpowered build. It's one of the biggest problems with >>96312321 (OP) actually because everyone just hides in the woods until they're a big dick invincible wizard god then steamrolls everything.

For that specific example you could make it appealing by having chimp out mode be a trigger rather than a countdown. So you have to avoid X or do Y or it happens, which will be inconvenient and difficult, but it's within your control and makes for interesting decisions within your build. You're getting extra power but you might not be able to do some things as easily as before because they put you at risk of triggering it.

I had one that's basically "New Game+" where if you achieve the peak of your strength (You can't avoid getting experience points) you slowly start to lose your mental faculties and gradually become basically Unga caveman after a year.
So you'd have level 99/99 stats but any skills you have would deteriorate until you basically forget how to use them. So no more persuasion or magic or swordsmanship.
You can reset this by basically resetting to Level 1, keeping your skill progress but losing all of your 'stats' and so you're super vulnerable for awhile.
Problem is I feel like people would treat that as way too punitive.

I don't think there is anything wrong with balancing levels by giving them a cap and then giving the player something to do after reaching it, but yeah that method is bad.

imo something better would be 'the level cap is 99 but once you reach level 80 and above you experience points start to deteriorate until you are back to the start of level 80' meaning you need to constantly earn xp even after reaching the cap to keep your end game stats

Since we're on the topic I just thought of a drawback.
Normal setting - World is mostly at peace, Demon Lord is still dangerous but largely ignoring humanity (For now) other than occasional Orc rape raids that only the outskirt villages have to deal with. Gives you time to get stronger before challenging them and stuff on your side of the world is comfy.
Drawback Setting - Demon King takes a more active role in humanity's suffering and the world starts off as mostly ravaged by war and far more dangerous. Cities that are flourishing in the standard setting are in shitty situations of disrepair or lawlessness. You can try to help push back the invasion and restore some semblance of the normal setting but you have to actively add a strong "enemy" from the bad guys list (Like killing an occupying underling general who's not final boss tier but pretty fucking strong for the start of your journey)

>Power system
The CYOA isn't about the power system. It's about:
1) The destiny building, with family, friends, mentors, events, and deaths.
2) The meta aspect of deriving meaning from your choices and the narrative, and the context of ascension.
3) The consequences of your actions.

So if you don't enjoy the meta commentary on stories, you can lean on the destiny building aspect, which isn't very common in CYOAs. If you don't like that, then it's not for you. The power system merely exists to give you baby beginner skills/talents/properties so you know what kind of person you are and the direction you can build yourself.

that doesn't answer the question.

getting pegged probably counts as sex, but what if I go to a proctologist and he sticks his fingers? how deep and how many thrusts can he go before it turns into intercourse?
if 'intercourse' is dependent on the intent of those involved in the act then what happens when one considers a certain act as 'intercourse' and the other one doesn't?
if I make a clone of myself and fuck it, is it 'intercourse' or just masturbation?

Magic has always been pretentious and faggy just like religion since it plays (…preys) on emotion and perception. The most powerful asset a magician has is their ability to fool, or use ignorance as a tool. Think about it. All you need to say is β€œyep it’s magic” and they will just nod. If you’re the only one in the world who knows some thing, or can do some trick, you can spin it however you wish. This is why wizards hate scrutiny and hoard all information for themselves.

The cleric/priest =|= mage/magician dichotomy is retarded and you know it. Solomon and Moses were considered wizards by both Jews and Greeks. The word magic itself comes from an order of learned astrologer priests you ignorant hack. God I hate you. Solomon was actually renowned for his knowledge and wisdom and learned much from God and demons both. The classical rendition of the wizard in the west has much to do with religion laced with learning about the natural world. The foremost wizards were the ones petitioning the gods. To become a more powerful wizard they had to be a spiritual individual. To be quite specific, typical spell casting or miracle working (Thaumaturgy) was seen as lesser to that of summoning or divine workings, that of Theurgia/Goeteia.

These splits are about as erroneous as the whole chi/qi thing. Cultivation started as a ritualistic or spiritual pursuit, not a martial one. Taoist sorcerers use wi/chi as their version of not!mana.

Which might be a naive dream, or result of her being part of a twisted situation. I will agree that it is quite unlikely that they have had sex, but I can't completely rule it out. Also among the possibilities of things that would prevent Adelina from having her way with Stella, there is Apollyon. For me, the only form of "afterlife" that makes sense is pretty material: your constituents and energy break down and are taken up in other things or beings, so that at some point basically everything constitutes everything else. > Do you believe in a soul?
Of course. It doesn't matter if this is a simulation, some kind of cosmic "accident", cross-polination from aliens or a divine intervention - this reality is too detailed and precise on details. The more you zoom, the more apparent it is. All ancient civilizations understood the concept of souls without having to encounter one another. People talking about near-death experiences also have similar recollections despite no conversations.
We can always consider all of this to be circumstancial coincidences, but all at the same time, various religion included? There is clearly something there.
>Is it eternal?
Yes. Death is a biological thing, and the soul was there first. It will be there afterwards. If it does reach a state similar to death, it's so far in the timeline you might as well consider it eternity.
>Is it indivisible?
Yes. It's like builds - they're all (You)s on some degree, but you resonated with a few ones more. If souls aren't bound by time, they could incarnate multiples times with various degrees of intent. Perhaps even multiples incarnations at the same time, if time truly is a non-issue for it.
>unique to humans

The Cult of Self-actualisation.
>Origin: Personality
>Aspects: Fraternal & Hallucinatory
To the outside eye the cult appears as just another eccentric net druggie subculture. But to the initiated, it is a tight-knit brotherhood seeking the realisation of human potential above all.
>Place of Gathering: Internet
The actual gathering place of true cult members is held inside of a shared dreamscape. The internet drug running operation is merely a smoke screen to keep glowies away from the real cult.
>Initiation Rite: Dream-Quest
The cult is divided into two distinctions, Hylics and Pneumatics. Hylics are the outer members responsible for maintaining the internet front and keeping the harmless druggie facade going. Pneumatics are the inner members, those who journeyed the into the astro plane in a grand quest of Self-discovery and come back ascendant. Failure conditions are short term amnesia and being delegated to a Hylic.
>Punishment: Exile
Betrayal is punished with the opposite of love, indifference.
>Nature of the Divine: Duotheistic (Order & Curiosity)
The only gods truly worth following.
>Blessings of Order:
Centurion
Aesthetic Zenith
Sacred Vestment (Higher Order/A belt)
>Blessings of Curiosity:
Minerva
Essence of Truth
Liber Ivonis (Higher Order)
>Enemies and Hazards:
Rival Cults
Witch Hunters
Investigators
Law Enforcement
>Notable Members:

C.F. Bundy
>Divine Purpose: Legacy

During the day I train my body, raising the temple ever higher.
During the night I wander the Dreamworld in search of knowledge. Then I spread what I discover amongst my followers and even take them with me sometimes. Bundy is my right hand man, the nominal leader of the cult when I'm absent. Arthur is my left hand, the one responsible for the Hylics and keeping nosy sleuths and glowies off our back. Bahram is the enforcer of cult, responsible for taking down rival cults and witch hunters. Luna is my mentor and dream guide.

Not bad. Bit tempted to get a chainsaw arm waifu but a hero golem who can train me in combat is pretty sweet as well.
>9: Demon Shield (Upgraded)
>7: Excalibolg
>Purchase: Predator's Fetish (Upgraded)
And as far as I'm concerned the items go great together. Immunity to Ranged attacks is great and anything that gets close gets Excalibolg'd. Going to go ahead and sink most of my coins into the Predator's Fetish as well for maximum strength gains, as well as because its just one of the best items hands down. Strength, agility, plus the ability to phase is hard to beat even with some of those other options available. I'll also go ahead and upgrade the Demon Shield as I feel Ebert is already an MVP despite not doing anything.
>11: Flying Frigate
>6: Magick Without Tears
Now the real conundrum is if I want to spread my stats across attack and special attack. 20 years is a long time, almost feels like a trap option despite the possible gains. I guess it'll be nice down the line but if I didn't already get my shit together in 20 years I'm not sure what access to 3 stars of magic is going to do for me except give some extra versatility. Ship's cool though, you really can't beat a flying ship even if it is a bit slow.
>3: Invasion of the Puptilians
I... I don't really know about this one. Isn't really the grand adventure I was hoping for, but I mean we are still technically on Earth so kind of a toss up. But since we got a flying boat, why not travel to Nigeria ourselves? It'll be a grand adventure... just kind of hope we get there in time. Quick maths says about a week given constant travel and that seems good, but on the other hand if I don't really have time to train I might be merked by aliens so its an awkward balance of how many black people am I willing to get eaten just to train up. I mean if you think about it, 5-100 people a day isn't actually that many, and tops its 730,000 in 20 years to get my magic powers...

If you make a CYOA based off an existing IP not of the CYOA medium it's Fan Content or Franchise CYOA.

If you make content based off an existing CYOA then it's a Fan DLC/Expansion and needs to be label as such.

How? Most of the options that give you one make them friendly, they're just shitty people that cause you problems while they're at it. Putting your balls in their jaws doesn't really change the dynamic.

being able to just fuck them feels like it automatically clears that

Most of them aren't as interesting, but I like a few of them enough to consider romancing them over the party members and overlords: Imbaum > Aisling > Hikmat. I place a lot of importance on their lore, actual and overridden, so Imbaum has a big place in my heart.

Bro you are the obstacle for the group and they're the obstacle for you. The villains might fuck with the heroes but that just makes them allies of yours, even if you're pretending to help the heroes.

If you don't pick them, the innocents and villains are not relevant to your adventure in the cyoa. They are, as described by the author, extras, which is why they are placed at the very end, unlike the other characters.

In JRPG traitor though the villains aren't really antagonists to your story. There are several of them that aren't truly villainous in any way, except that their nature is technically in violation of the rules set down by the Auspice. Aisling for one is neutral at worst, and probably favorable towards the religion of the Auspice, seeing as she was raised in a temple by members of that religion. However she was created artificially, and so her very existence is heretical, by the rules of the Auspice. That rule though is probably just to discourage people from trying to make their own Auspice, rather than something the sorcerer kings actually disapproved of.

> All ancient civilizations understood the concept of souls without having to encounter one another.
This is not a meaningful form of evidence, firstly all (or at least most) civilizations have been in some form of extended contact simply via the fact that they communicated with their neighbours whod did the same and so on and so forth, let us also not forget that all of these civilizations share roots if you trace them back far enough anthropologically.
But ignoring all of that you arrive at the same reason that most arguments of this nature are stupid, let us take for example 'pyramids' while you'll find terraced structures pretty much everywhere that is not an indication that there is some greater truth guiding us to pyramid, its just that there's only so many ways to effectively stack rocks.
The soul can be said to be the equivalent for any religion, the goal of most religions historically is to answer questions which people have and comfort them so they can work hard ('most' yes obviously there will be exceptions) the idea of what happens when you die is a fairly obvious one so to fulfil goal two they obviously want to assure that its not the end, but what survives? Thats where you get the soul. Its an absurdly simple concept like 'person but large' or 'person but animal', all of which are also mirrored globally because they're really easy to come up with.

Why haven't authors copied from each other? Like someone copying the success of JRPG Traitor? Or like Tok copying Spirit Conscript. Or Ordion copying War of the Zodiac Brides. Italics copyinf Outer Reincarnation?

It's such a strange phenemenon not to transpire or see done.

Respectable choice but I counter with Sebrosa.
Lemora is one bad day away from biting off more than she can chew. One straight confrontation away from winding up in a ditch.

Sebrosa will teach you how to tackle those problems head on and do her best to make sure you come out the other side stronger.

>>Thread Question: Do you believe in a soul? Is it eternal, indivisible, unique to humans?
My religion believes that consciousness and matter are inseparable from each other, both being made out of "light". This belief falls into the category of neutral monism, philosophies that describe a third existence as the foundation of the universe instead of matter (materialism) or spirit (idealism).
The contents of this world were spiritually created before their physical existence, and at minimum, the animal part of it will continue to exist in the next world.
Human spirits are still special because they are the same "species" as Heavenly Father, having an infinitely long history and an infinitely long future while still being His progeny. Mortality is the middle, and only finite part of it, where He's testing us to see which of the three Heavens will belong to each of us. Technically, we are already in the lowest Heaven.
Hell as most people know it is a hyberbole taken too literally, it's a description of the regret felt when someone knows they wasted an opportunity, in this case, a unique turning point in an infinite history.

TL;DR:
>Do you believe in a soul?
Yes
>Is it eternal
Yes, twice as much as you'd expect.
>indivisible
It's indestructible but still has organs and appendages.
>unique to humans?
No.

There is nothing after death and humans are all alone in a massive empty universe...is a statement that is the furthest thing from the truth, and is only pushed by completely broken humans.

>Why haven't authors copied from each other?
They have. Multiple authors have done Island cyoas, including New Observer, Ordion, and I think Beri.

Lodoleth cribbed heavily from several cyoas to flesh out Universal War, including Traveler's Tale and Space Opera Refugee.

Lots of authors have done Art Genies and Gifts of Favorites. Meanwhile, how many waifu pickers and pill pickers are floating around out there? Or how many cyoas written up using Imaginos's templates?
