11th should bring back:
>Templates
>Old AP
>Tank facings and AVs
>Psychic disciplines
>Psychic tests and perils of the warp
>Warlord traits
>Armoury
>Point costs
>Old wound allocation
>WS chart
>Additive S/T chart instead of multiplicative
>Detachments as armylists (ie, detachments should have their own restricted/expanded list of units)
>Cover saves
>4th edition terrain rules (dangerous, difficult, impassable, area)
>No stratagems

11th should copy from 30k 3.0:
>Morale
>Flyers
>FOC
>How characters attach to units
>USRs

11th should keep from 10th:
>Mission design
>Pre-established terrain placements (though they should be more generic and varied, not just ruins)
>Detachments (with some tweaks)
>Crusade (especially at the quality of Armageddon)

I wouldn't mind either way but I quite like the new 30k FOC. Something about it just scratches an itch I didn't know I had and while being more freeform than the old one, it's still a lot more sensible than 10th's take whatever with a rule of 3.

This right here, the "max of 3" rule is absolute fucking cancer. It's both insultingly lazy on GW's part and completely obliterates the balancing if you're just free to take three of anything you want no matter how strong and expensive that unit is (because it was designed to be far more limited in past editions)

Why though? I think it adds a nice lever to balance melee units. Genuinely curious.
>stratagems
I just hate having a completely separate and abstracted layer of rules with its own metacurrency to keep track of. I could get behind something like reactions from 30k but honestly I rather not have anything like that. Let units and their wargear be what matters, not stratagems.

I was thinking something closer to what variant armylists used to be in 3rd. Like, you can have the generic detachemnt with access to the entire roster but very generalist rules and then more specialized detachments for specific subfactions/playstyles with their own rosters. There's a number of ways to do this and I don't think the current one is bad per se (though variant subfactions should be more limited in what detachments they can take) but I like the 3rd edition system because it keeps things tidy so they are easier to balance and simple to understand.

Word bearers need no upgrade kits.
Freehand gets the job done well enough, and itโ€™s one of the main reasons I like painting them. The generic CSM sculpts fit them well.

Same goes for IW if you use HH mk3 and mk2 parts.

>alpha legion
Reddit seems to like this army and I wish I had a dime for every Reddit post that goes โ€œpainting some alpha legion right now!โ€ And itโ€™s just a CSM primed in leadbelcher with kroxigor scales contrast paint (still manages to look sloppy). My point is that I think alpha legion would sell well, and so would night jobbers as weโ€™ve seen with their kill team sprue.

I find that small characters from books or snippets have the most character and embody how the small human experiences and ambitions get swallowed up in the carnage and despair. Guardsmen, marines turned traitor, aspiring champions, aspirants, and anyone with real genuine motivation or hopes are more interesting than somebody who got like 5 books or a primarch.

>former loyalist turned world eater seething in furious anger at how he used to to be a loyalist as he foams at the mouth waiting for his drop pod to land

>the tech priest who sacrificed himself to bring the ultramarinesโ€™ communications back online on Calth

>the gene stealer family from hammer and Bolter

Idk thatโ€™s just me though.

>general Stubbs from Dow soulstorm who fights space marines and SoB alike to prove that the guard canโ€™t be outdone by either (and also to advance his career)

>the the guardswoman who wouldnโ€™t kneel to the Iron warriors in that one WH+ short and ends up becoming a servant

Warhammer isn't for third worlders in general sadly. The average brit can pretty much squeeze in a bit of his salary every month to buy some miniatures but the same can't be said for latin americans. Collecting stuff in general doesn't seem to be big here regardless of it being miniatures or not. Although as of late I have been seeing a random surge in 40k related channels and content in my country, down to specialized local recasters selling at a more acessible price. We don't have game stores and all my like 5 or so friends I can play with are all rich kids living in the good parts of the city who can only afford it due to heritage and still complain about the prices.

Don't know about the spanish speakers but here in Brazil the police could overpower the gangs at any time if they wanted to.
They just aren't allowed to by local politicians and authorities and the entire legal system is built in a way that criminals can pretty much keep on their operations and hardly ever go to jail unless they really fuck up, some people only ever go to jail after like running into the police 10 times before and they have a extremely small amount of time in there.
I heard about some serial killer, can't tell if it was Peru or Equador, who murdered and buried around 47 people in the name of Satan and only faced only 25-30 years in prison, he was pretty old so he died there but still it's a structural problem not a enforcement problem, shows just make the police look stupid because they like putting criminals in a good light
Think of genestealer cults instead of underhive scum gangs, it's all the way down to the governors :)

Hey anons, I'm not a frequent poster here, came to ask if you have any tips for setting up a fun 1000 point game? What are decent ways to build armies/what to avoid to ensure a fun experience that isn't one sided? I heard people said don't bring centerpiece stuff, the 250+ point stuff that can be an ass if people don't bring enough Anti Tank. My frens and I only either played combat patrol for fast game or 2K since we mostly got into playing after collecting a lot of shit.

For refernece my and my fren group's armies include: Necrons, Black Templars, World Eaters, CSM, Orks, Blood Angels, Drukhari (Drukhari army options are small anyway just 2 combat patrols + that box that had incubi and wyches) in case that matters for army specific tips.

>โ€œYes! Yes! Give it to us!โ€

>โ€œOf course, it had to be the one with a mouth inside the mouth of her mouth who also becomes a golden horror! Not fair!โ€ flaps Zigouigoui, trying to snatch a pot.

>โ€œRefund me for this free pot of color, Color Merchant! Even Roploplo got a better one than mine! Look! She got a half-brown pot!โ€

>โ€œYes, I see, Zigouigoui. And now she is pink in the front and brown in the back...โ€ nods the Color Merchant, walking away.

GW should make a non-imperium human faction. There are human worlds that aren't a part of Imperium. So let's have some form a confederacy that can hold their own for a bit and take on Imperial and xeno invasion fleets. You could even include some minor xeno allies, there are Kroot all over the galaxy and add some new minor xeno race specific to them. Plus they wouldn't be as xenophobic as Imperium so you could have young red blooded human males having sex with Eldar, T'au and other xeno women in the lore, the human x alien interspecies bit can sell especially if the new xeno species is hot. Some mass effect in our 40K would do well.

Imagine a 2 thousand year old waise experienced and haughty Eldar Farseer being conquered by a freshly matured 16 year old human male guard conscript and goes from wise stern mystical elf woman to worshiping his human cock when they are alone, not caring how taboo it is, or that his species is considered superior. He has proven the charm and strength of a noble young human soul to her and all disgust faded and she spread her legs open for the young buck to claim his prize and bite into the forbidden fruit.

Save for that part is not far off the mark. The chemical compounds Lucius and his warband use to get high also see use as chemical warfare agents. Other Astartes who don't have their extensive history of substance abuse will simply not be able to handle it. This was a plot point in pic related when Fabius the Potion Seller decided to bargain with Lucius to field test some new combat stimulants, because between Lucius's combat veterancy and the tolerance he had built up over ten thousand years of recreationally dosing himself with chemical WMDs, Fabius figured that he couldn't synthesize a more ideal candidate to try his strongest potions on.

To put things into perspective, GW is selling around ten times as much as they did back in the 6th/7th edition. 40k 7th was arguably even a flop - sales were dropping during the 7th ed launch. 2015 saw a pretty big increase in sales with AoS dropping, but it died quite quickly and the company stagnated around that ~16m profit figure. Losing sales and only barely managing to remain even after cutting all stores to one-man operations was tricky and the stock price reflected it - if you are doing massive cost-cutting but remaining the same in terms of profitability, the company is going to die.

However, in 2017, revenue increased by a solid 25% and profit more than doubled thanks to Primaris. This growth continued, with revenue going from ยฃ158,114,000 in 2017 to ยฃ219,870,000 (and profit again nearly doubling from 38m to 75m) in 2018. From there, the growth began to slow but was still constant, growing about 10% a year in both revenue and profit from 2018-19, another 10% profit increase in 2019-2020.

People often talk about the huge Covid bump GW got but even that (~60% profit increase yoy and some 40% revenue increase yoy) was still smaller than the massive Primaris boost.

Games workshop was floundering and cutting costs everywhere it could just to break even, but Primaris caused 40k to explode in popularity, revenue and profit. This is an objectively true statement as told by GW's own stock reports. Current GW sells over 5 times as much as they did in 2014, which was the release of 7th.

tldr PRIMARIS IS KING and SAVED 40k

6th was allies being busted, where Tau took Eldar so that Triple Riptides could strategically nuke anything they saw and instant killed MEQ
It was also flier powercreep where fliers were broken, everything that was anti-flier sucked, nothing could shoot into fliers, and so the only way to counter fliers was to buy a flier. Including highlights like the 12 inch range Helldrake flamer that instakilled MEQ.

6th also had such fun things like units that could only ever be hit on a 6 that also had a 2+ rerollable invuln save. 6th also had STRENGTH D, which was the devil.

7th nerfed a bit of psychic and superheavies and fliers, but not enough, so games got taken over by Wraithknights and Invis-spam. STRENGTH D was still the devil.

I'm pretty much a newfag who picked up the game last year and only play at 1000pts due to not having enough models yet (I'm at 1200pts of painted stuff and counting). I don't wanna blame the dice but I was not able to prevent my opponent from scoring, I dealt 7 wounds to his home objective with demo charges and he made 6 5+ saves etc. kinda stuff happened a lot but it's all part of the game. Even when my stuff came with the cult ambush to score objective in later parts of the game, he was able to move 12" and just charged into stuff to get rid of them with ease. I ran out of gas by the 4th turn.
I also wish I went 2nd instead of going first, the mission we played was Take & Hold so scoring at the end of turn works pretty good with deep strike. It also prevented me from gaining a CP with the acolytes with their rules. It was a fun game nonetheless, would play again. Death Company Dreadnought with Magna Grapple rules.

Nta but I never understood why people say primaris have "better proportions"

So many times I've seen
>the proportions are better because they're taller
Height isn't proportions.
But forgetting the people who use words they don't understand, it still doesn't make sense to me.

Primaris have huge boots, worse so than older marines, but the crux of the issue is the upper body: older marines had a big torso and big pauldrons, paired with the wide stance and boots it gave them a strong silouhette. But primaris marines? Their pauldrons are the same size, which makes them smaller proportionally, meaning that primaris have a "weaker" upper body. Coupled with the huge feet and busy design of redundant plates/layers, they don't convey the strength that old marines had.

So I ask: how are the proportions "better"? Is it just people taking issue with "non-realistic" poses to the point anything "realistic" is better to them, regardless of visual language/silouhette?

M41 ERA INDOMITUS
>On a nameless world, the Exorcists' Judiciar Domisor strikes down Lucius the Eternal. So encouraged by his mentor Liminas, after the battle Domisor scarcely wastes a heartbeat before, within his Chapter's hidden fastness on that lost world, he secludes himself for further training to join the Chaplaincy in full. His burning ambition quickly sputters. In his exercise rites, he feels the tug of unfamiliar muscle memory. He finds scars on his flesh, and he cannot recall where he earned them. And yet, despite his growing sense of impending doom, and his Judiciar's vow of silence, several times he catches himself almost proclaiming his martial excellence, seemingly to no one at all. Having lost faith in himself, Domisor takes up his blade to cut his doubts away, for the Chapter if not for his own salvation, but he glances the blade's mirror, and the grin in the mirror is not his own.

>Shortly the Exorcists' dungeons echo with the blaring of alarm klaxons, the clanging of brandished weapons, and the wails of tortured souls. Like a reaper's scythe Lucius deals swift death to all within. Last of all falls Liminas; the Chaplain, stunned at the sight of Domisor's screaming visage trapped in the Eternal's armour, is cut down with lackadaisical ease.

>Why though? I think it adds a nice lever to balance melee units. Genuinely curious.
I think from a game design perspective its about how much return you are getting from the granularity. More crunch slows the game down. You could run GURPS for every single model on the table if you want, but at a certain point it becomes impractical to play and dare I say it not fun. I think the return on the old WS chart being interactive with other characters wasn't high. If anything I think there would be more theming and storytelling from reworking strength/toughness than hit chance. Shrimplified hit chance as it exists in 10th is in a good place in my opinion, it's wounding and saves that's suffering from not having enough granularity.

>In what way? I never thought psykers were complex, we never had anything like WHFB's magic system.
Personally WHFB magic is my favorite, but I think that it overlaps too much with stratagems and I quite like stratagems as a gameplay mechanic and concept. I think 9th had way too many and 10th slightly too few. I think they should dip a toe back into having strats come from both Army/Detachment/Units without the overload of 40 strats we ended up with.

Take knights for example, Rotate Ion Shields should be an army wide Stratagem that's core to how their army plays and has nice interactivity and decision making from both players. But then characters specific units can come with a unique strat again to add more flavor to what they do. I actually wouldn't mind if psychic abilities just became strats tied to psyker units.

Imagine if you took a Librarian and he had a choice of 3 psychic wargear each one giving him access to a different 1CP "spell". So he can activate Bio Lightning for 1CP. It actually gives psykers a purpose without having to commit to the time inflation of adding an entire other phase. We are talking about adding maybe 1 or 2 strats total.

9th was too much, but I think 10th can lean into strats a bit more than it does.
