im also wondering what backpacks or luggage people use. i will be traveling around SEA. im thinking of taking a carry on sizr backpack fro clothes and another backpack for my laptop etc. that way i dont have to have any checked luggage. i traveled around EU for a couple months about 15 years ago and used a large backpacking camping style. i had to pack more and heavier clothes though and it was still kind of over kill. i was also thinking a small hard case would be good so stuff stays dry in the rain. all together i feel like the convenience of just a light laptop bag and another small backpack or duffle bag would be better.

I'll be touching down at San Francisco airport on a Sunday afternoon, and I want to check in to a hotel for one night. I'm looking for a place/area to stay that's nearby shopping for toiletries and maybe some quick sight seeing before being picked up by a friend on the Monday afternoon for the drive to Santa Rosa. I'm travelling solo up to this point.

I found San Francisco Centre on a map, nearby to some hotels, so I'm led to believe this is a good built-up location. 10 minute walk to a walgreens pharmacy. Though online I'm reading this shopping centre is run-down. But don't know, is this good enough is or is there anywhere vastly better to stay? Any suggestions to add to this plan? e.g. places to visit here, opportunities to socialise a short while...

The hostels that brand themselves as "party hostel" will generally put something together every night. If not just invite your roommate down to the hostel bar for some drinks.

It pays to research where you're staying. Don't pick any old hostel because some are actual shit holes with migrant workers paying for a cheap bed. Any hostel that has a bar attached is a solid bet for meeting other travelers.

The US is a car-centric country. Outside of major cities, you do need a car to do almost anything.

On the other side of the coin, that apparent inaccessibility might be why those national parks are "the best." Imagine if they were a shorter drive, or if they were easily accessed via public bus. It would get shitty so fast with the overtourism and the increased garbage.

Download the hostel world app and look at the reviews, some hostels are huge like a hotel and that makes it hard to socialise. Find a small one with good reviews in or around the centre of the city and just be friendly and chatty. Have a good Instagram profile that makes you look interesting and attractive, you'll probably use it for keeping contact with people. When it comes to enjoying nature/national parks, my advice comes down to this; "go far, go early." Go far, as in, to out of the way places, but also on longer, more technical trails, once you get there; anything more involved than a 5-mile out and back is gonna weed out 90% of NPCs. I'm trying to get artistic references for the area for a fancomic I'm making (Puerto Rican girl isn't friends with locals, retreats to the nature park nearby, home is in one of the houses south of the three-tiered project housing) and amongst a general visit to New England for artistic inspiration of the original show, I wanted to travel to NYC for a community where a Puerto Rican family would live. I know I'll lose RealTraveler points for this, but I got the Osprey Sojourn wheeled bag and like it after travelling a year with a decent regular backpack. If you plan to do much real /out/ hiking with your bag it's not the right choice, but it's great for normal travel, the only times I've actually used it like a backpack were in a few small towns with gravel or ancient cobblestone roads or in sketchy places where I wanted it strapped on and hands free but I like having that option and it was surprisingly comfortable

really depends on when you want to go
I typical travel 3-4 weeks in April and 3-4 weeks in October, that's low season almost everywhere and I usually book everything ~1month before

check public holidays, big sport / music / political events, trade fairs etc.
the more events, the earlier you have to book hotels & attractions
some special attractions are booked out for months though (e.g. Alhambra)
plane tickets always get more expensive the closer you get to your date

also the more flexibility you have (budget, time) the later you can book
a densely packed culture trip might be better to book earlier, while a bar hopping & party vacation can basically be done ad hoc

Also you want a good off road car the Iceland weather is no fucken joke so if you are gunna get a cheap 4x4 don’t bother. I was able to see sooo much without going off road

I’m pretty confident I’ll go back to Iceland and do the 4x4 trip and the other trip seperately

What are dome of the most KINO American dream type suburbs that travel through on street view, love American neighbourhoods but any country will do if you know some nice ones

I've never traveled before. I'm excited but also a little nervous. How do you balance planning things to do with also enjoying being in a new place and exploring?

Have you guys ever gotten barred from an airline or anything bad ever happened?
Usually round trips cheaper than 1 way flights...so theres been a lot of times I have just taken the outward trip and then cancel the return flight and get credit (used to get $ back)
Im wondering if I can buy a round trip and not fly on the outward flight, but then still use the return flight? Or will they cancel it and call me a skiplagger?

Has anyone ever gotten cheaper airfaire by literally going to the airport and asking the front desk lady if you can squeeze into the plane if theres any no shows? And also telling them your broke and gay etc?

On Euor flights almost impossible they're mostly overbooked so unless a feeder/interconti flight is canceled/delayed there won't be any seats beside the 1-3 Business class seats they keep open for their high tier loyalty status holders and biz travel that is okay with paying 890€ for a 1h flight.
Interconti possible, can be really cheap especially if you're okay with <any> destination.

One thing I notice is that prices seem to be different if your browsing early in the week versus thur/friday and the weekend

I think if you're planning on just seeing Prague, you have planting of time to just relax and take it easy

What's the better Baltic trip?
Starting in Vilnius, then going to Riga, to Tallinn, then ending in Helsinki?

Ive been debating for weeks now if i should go to Germany, czech, poland type area for a 2-3 week travel. But im on the fence and have just been changing my mind daily and starting to feel like a wuss for not just buying the ticket and going. most likely you won't talk much or even see the other people in your room and just sleep there
in some hostels, where you stay for longer or more remote ones, you might socialize with your room mates though

though you'll get thrown out of the hostel if you're too loud and the others complain

I'll be moving overseas and I'll be taking only my clothes and my computer equipment. My PC is small enough to fit in my carry-on but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with ensuring that my monitor will not break when in checked luggage. What's the safest way to pack something like that?

Put it in its original box. Styrofoam and all. I have a fancy pants monitor which I've flown with me across two East Asian countries and it's been fine.
Failing that, wrap it generously in bubble wrap and then put it in something hard, like a suit case. Dump all your clothes in for extra cushion.

Why do people travel to places like Tokyo, Seoul, Amsterdam, New York, any kind of "big city" really? I watched a few travel streamers who went to these places and all they did was walk around looking at the generic office buildings and then sitting down for food after a while? like theres literally nothing to do?

I understand beach holidays and sex tourism but big cities make no sense to me, is it just narcissistic people who want pictures for their social media showing that they went to place x or what?

but all of these cities have significant historical importance and lots of buildings or even neighborhoods from these times which are worth exploring
modern buildings can also be cool, really depends
these cities also all have very nicely build out public infrastructure, lots of museums, music / art / cultural events, landmarks etc.
there's just a lot to do

some people just enjoy more cultural oriented holidays
