Wtf was Kojima thinking? Why is every aspect of the game easier than the first? And for all of the talk I hear about how everything from the first game was "improved" I've yet to see really anything that plays differently than DS1.

The entire map of Mexico you can drive directly up to every delivery spot and avoid at the BTs and Mules. In the first area of DS1 there were at least two delivery spots that required you to hike through either rough terrain or through a BT area.

I'm in Australia and it's the same shit. Everything is even closer together now and I can just stroll right up. Whenever I see something cool I want to climb or explore I get the "out of delivery area" message.

Its a worse map and game in the most fundamental ways. It feels less like a sequel and more like an expansion pack.

Yes. Lou is what humanized Sam. Lou should have been with you as a toddler for like 3/4 of the game. Then he could have expanded the "taking care of Lou" aspect too. It would have been very unique.
I would have been fine with the "maybe Lou is dead" plot line for the last 1/4 and the (obvious) revelation Lou is Tomorrow.

Your gut wasn't wrong. It's actually stupid how easy the deliveries are in DS2. You can literally drive up to every location in Mexico, compared to the first area in DS1 that had two porters that required you to get off your bike and hike through difficult terrain.
If the deliveries were your favorite part of DS1, you're going to be disappointed. I've been playing for 20 hours and I've yet to have a single delivery with like 20 pieces to the order, or any other challenge. It sucks. None of the actual delivery and hiking mechanics were improved upon. Container repair spray and timefall shelters are still useless. You can stack ladders, but for whatever reason you can only stack two, and the terrain isn't really that interesting or challenging.

The added weather mechanics are pointless as well.

There is no way you played and enjoyed DS1 and then call DS2 a masterpiece. There is absolutely zero tension. In fact the game goes out of its way to make it as easy as possible. In Mexico you have to go out of your way to even see BT's. It's stupid. There is no risk during the journey, and he failed to improve the package mechanics at all so stuff like container repair spray continues to serve no purpose.

The game sucks. Granted it's better than anything else this year, but it's a major downgrade from DS1.

Met Peko at the furthest. Feels like there are a ton more shelters than the first game, or at least they're all closer together. The ergonomic upgrades are massive, cargo gun on the larger vehicles are a godsend along with the autopilot on highways.
Story is brutal, I still blame Fragile for everything that has happened to Sam. Man just wanted to live his life after doing the impossible.
For a lot of the gadgets available I've been a simpleton. Kinda disappointed there isn't a reward for the 5-star ratings with shelters but that's because I aimed for 100% in DS1 twice.
The schizo poster is mentioning combat and all that, I like how varied the camps are. Far more thought put into them than the first where you have a few and it never felt like they had any tactical advantages or a real setup.
Biggest complaint is lack of Lou. For Sam having a full party around that is always directing and reminding him to take care of himself, he feels more alone than ever. Dollman is around, sure, but he rarely comments on anything. He's a really neat form of recon but it feels like he's been attached to Sam just to make sure he keeps doing what they say. You'd think having a pocket therapist would lead to anything introspective but instead you just get the rare "wowzers".
I like everything so far. But things feel a lot more meaningless. (You) and Sam are doing things because otherwise you'd just waste away. Except if I kill myself, I'm at least done.

MASSIVE? Really...? It's only an upgrade if the game is more interesting as a result. Everything added just makes it easier and even though you have choices, they really don't matter when you can just do what >>714270845 does.
>Kinda disappointed there isn't a reward for the 5-star ratings with shelters but that's because I aimed for 100% in DS1 twice.
Another example of the delivery mechanic (the one thing DS has going for it) being nerfed. It's baby shit for fake gamers now.
>I like everything so far. But things feel a lot more meaningless
Sounds like you're in denial, anon. The game is a worse version of DS1 in almost every way, most importantly, the maps.

The new weather mechanic is cool except it is meaningless? Who care if the rivers rise if you can still walk across them no problem? Why have moving storms and not have the BT areas move with them? Then we'd at least have an incentive to try and avoid it. Instead, to see BT's you have to deliberately go out of your way. It's shit. Absolute shit.

The fact is you run into DS1's biggest critique only a few hours in. In DS1, when all the roads were built, travel and delivery became trivial. No one liked the game as much when most or all the roads were done.
In DS2, Mexico is designed so that you can easily drive through the whole map, via various routes without any problem so delivery becomes trivial as soon as the bike is available.

In DS1, you were forced to get off your bike for certain deliveries and navigate through BT areas or whatever. That is nonexistent in the first half of this game.

It's bigger, yet feels so much smaller. The weather is a useless mechanic. Monorails are gay and make the game easy. Somehow monorails and autopilot (the game playing for you) is an upgrade?

The five star rewards has nothing to do with mechanics. It just feels like you're making less of an impact. Getting a star felt like a personal reward, that you really have taken care of everything. Like with the artist, you have a deeper understanding of how lonesome the world is when a delivery man is her best friend. Maybe there's no way to have a star equivalent but it felt like more of a success that way.
>you're in denial
I'm not. I didn't mention them before but I do like the weather system. It requires actual pathfinding. Mexico was a good example, going from the DC to the village. Combining two ladders together is a tiny ergonomic change but it is also massive in terms of application. The weather adds a lot to the world. It may not make the game balls hard but it doesn't have to. In an age where you can 3d print vehicles and gear, it would be pretty weird to be defeated by weather.
I don't understand the constant talk about never finding BTs. You'd have to show me the routes you take because I end up leaving my car behind repeatedly to sneak through. The boomerang is also pretty goofy but I like it a lot. Has more range than you'd think but I also opt to cut their cords. Habit from 1. Blood grenades feel nerfed, even the lv2 ones. Those gazers/seekers are incredibly durable to the point anything less than grenades isn't worth it.

How exactly does that improve the gameplay loop? You are basically just saying "GRAPHICS GOOOD".
What do you even mean by "more areas to visit". More biomes? Do the changes in the map compliment the gameplay mechanics? Do they give more meaning to tools like ladders, ropes, and bridges? Is ruining your shoes ever a risk? Is there a real reason to regularly use container repair spray or structures? The answer is no, obviously. The terrain is easier and the threats are minimized, which means it is worse than the first game.

>The five star rewards has nothing to do with mechanics. It just feels like you're making less of an impact.
Wrong. Rewards are part (and the endgame of) of the gameplay loop.
>I didn't mention them before but I do like the weather system. It requires actual pathfinding. Mexico was a good example, going from the DC to the village.
Wrong. There are obvious places where you can just cross the high water on foot or bike. I have not found a single area in Mexico that requires tools to get across. Get good.
>Combining two ladders together is a tiny ergonomic change but it is also massive in terms of application.
You should be able to put together more than two ladders, otherwise there are all sorts of peaks that are simply inaccessible.
>The weather adds a lot to the world.
Sandstorms do nothing and the rain literally charges your gear now with a perk (makes the game easier). BT's should have moved with the weather. Then you would actually need to plan.
>I don't understand the constant talk about never finding BTs.
In Mexico there are only TWO BT spots. One next to that Spanish named delivery spot by the city, but you have to go out of your way to enter a danger area. And the second is up by the weather dude from the first game, but they are only in one small area that has several clear paths around it and up to him.
In DS1's first area you had the BT area pinch point at the beginning that forced you over the mountains, you had another one down in the forest area by that delivery spot that was innaccessable by vehicle, one between the first set of stops and the second, and you had the other pinch point on the way out of the area to the last location.

Honestly I have no idea what he was thinking. DS1 seemed so well thought out and meticulously planned. Even if things like the roads made the game kind of boring at the end, the journey was incredible. DS2 totally sucked the adventure out of the game. It honestly feels like he made DS2 for the people that didn't like DS1, rather than making it for the people that loved the first game.
Maybe it would have benefited from not being rushed out because they thought GTA6 was this fall.

Why can you walk across a raging storm fueled river at all? You should need ladders and shit every single mission. I only play offline, btw because the game is easy enough without all of the bullshit people leave behind, but there is literally not a single spot in Mexico that requires tools. New adventures should require careful planning.

Also anyone notice that the game puts ladders and rope boxes next to every single spot you might want to use them (but again, why would you)? DS1 didn't do that.

Wrong. In DS1 everyone was lonely and very grateful every time you stopped by. The delivery of their lines felt genuine.
The direction of the actors in DS2 is far worse. Everyone sounds bored and annoyed they are there.

Yes but why do that when you can just one-shot everyone with that early game pistol, which is easier, has less room for error, and gives you a greater sense of control?
That seems to be the one thing missing with Kojima ideas is the "how can I make this neat idea something that enhances the game in some strategic way for the player?" I have no idea why there are so many guns and combat options if the goal is to 1-shot enemies. There is no incentive to use anything else except the best and most efficient methods.
This was kind of a problem in DS1 too. I would just drop kick and then kick every mule. I wouldn't even use guns. Now, with the overpowered guns in DS2, it's stupid not to, but again, little incentive to use anything but a few weapons.

Feels like he was shaken by every criticism of the first game, and just streamlined the fuck out of it. I've been playing just shy 10 hours and it's so fucking easy compared to the first that it almost defeats the purpose. I haven't fallen over once, you can just sprint across virtually any terrain with no issue. Need to get through a BT site? No worries, here's a machine gun that kills them all. Need to get through a mule camp? No worries, here's a machine gun that will kill them all. Or you can just blast past everything on a trike.

I still enjoy it, Kojima's team are great at making really responsive and satisfying controls. But it's disappointing how trivial the whole thing is now.

Wrong. DS only has one metric that matters and that is package condition. As a porter you should always take the safest and most efficient path. Using less efficient and effective tools to get the job done doesn't make you better, it just means you're an idiot. Sure, I could make the game artificially more difficult by not using any vehicles, but the game simply is not designed in a satisfying way for that type of gameplay. On the other side of the coin, DS2. The world without the roads is easy to navigate so the sense of accomplishment doesn't exist. It is simply just a faster way to move. Almost all the people you deliver to are totally forgettable or unlikeable. Also there is less variation in the types of things you deliver. Thank you for the description though, I definitely feel that the game itself is very playful with it's tone and the music follows along with it. As much as I want more of the same vibe of Death Stranding 1, there is no way Death Stranding 2 could stay there forever without getting stale.

Neil fights are fun. Higgs is funny. Love it. I like it more the more i play. I prefer walking over using vehicles. They make getting around too fast and easy. I end up not appreciating the environment and my gear as much, If im just zooming over everything with a truck with a fuck ton of storage using no tools. It feels like im hardly engaging with many of the game's systems that way.

I love picking a delivery, making my loadout with tools and weapons, and heading off on foot on a journey. Its a type of experience i havent found anywhere else. The shooting is also surprisingly good. Really like the shotgun.

Theres too much dialog though. Its a bit wierd but that does a lot to make the tone of the game as unique and strange as it is. What a weird tone to absolutely everything, its great.

Woodkid's vibe is not good compared to Ryan's at least for Death Stranding. Ryan was perfect. I would go so far as to say Death Stranding 2 is worse because he died and couldn't be in the role Woodkid now occupies.
